Hi, I'm an EA applicant to UChicago. I have another post with my stats and such, but what I'm really wondering is how to survive the admissions/waiting process. Every time I think about receiving my admission/rejection letter I just start to panic. The stress is starting to get to my application to because I try to write my essay but I want to get in so bad that I feel like it needs to be perfect. How do I calm down and survive the next few months until decisions come out? Thank you.

Don’t worry!. Most people feel this way! I advise treating your application like a self-reflection. It’s interesting to see all of your experiences put down on paper. As for the essay, have fun with it. No one is looking for a formal dissertation or a perfect research paper. They are looking for your personal voice. Don’t worry about making it perfect; rather, make sure it communicates all that you are trying to say. Don’t be afraid to push your comfort level.

As for waiting, just work on your application and forget about it when you are done. Focus on your academics, have fun with yoru extra curriculars, and focus not on the school you are going to attend but what sort of experiences and activities you want to do wherever you go.

Good luck!

I totally know how you feel. Except, I got my essays done over the summer so everything’s submitted already and I can’t change anything and I’m starting to panic as well because I want to get in so badly and I have no idea how I will wait until mid-December. >___<
Not particularly helpful, but I just thought you should know that you’re not alone :)

This process is pretty stressful, but make sure you keep yourself occupied with school and your activities so that you aren’t constantly worrying about the outcome. Plus EA is slightly easier in the sense that you probably have RD applications to be working on (unless you’re like me and procrastinate them all until winter break… :))

Good luck and don’t let the need to have a perfect essay get in the way of true writing!

Thank you all so much for your responses! I have completed my essay, it’s going into the tidy up process right now. As for senior year, it’s certainly been keeping me busy enough, but my brain will always find time to worry.
