How to review your CR questions? + more. 750+ CR scorers, please come here and help!

Hi, whenever I review my answers for the CR sections I take, I spend a bunch of time reviewing. I've went from the 500s to the 600+ range and have gotten 700s before, and a 740 this one time. But anyway, I am not consistent. And recently, I have been scoring pretty low.

My errors are everywhere. SC and PBR.

My problem in passage based reading is getting that randomly hard passage that screws me over. It is also a difficulty in comprehending the passage in such a short amount of time. What can I do to improve this?

My problem in SC is not exactly understanding what the sentence is saying and what kind of words could fit. What can I do to improve this?

Another issue that I have a major issue with is time. I've done a ton of untimed tests. Whenever I try timing myself, I've always went over, except for one or two times. I am sure it is because of the time I take to understand the SC and PBR questions, but what can I still do to improve my time?

So to those who have greatly improved from low scores to 750+ in the CR section, I, and many other hopeful 750+ scorers need your help.

So, how do you review your mistakes? Like what goes through your head and what are your thought processes during this time.

What can I do to improve my comprehension?

What can I do to improve my time?

Thanks!

If you’re having trouble understanding the passages in the time given, then stop constraining yourself to the time limits and take as much time as you need until you get 750-800 every time. Then slowly increase the pace at which you do the problems.

If unlimited time doesn’t help, you need to boost your reading comprehension, which requires a great amount of intellectual reading

For PBR problems, I could give you a barrage of tips, but I need some as secrets, so I can give you one major, easy to explain one.

Get the gist. He he, do you get it? The JIST = GIST?
G - general
I - idea (GI are the same thing)
S - structure
T - tone

If you get that of a passage, the questions should be easier!

I have the same problem. I cannot do the double passage section in time. I need more time to think and SAT traps are happy to trap me in when I rush through the questions. I hope someone can reveal a magical secret… for now I think that all we can do is practice. With practice we learn to focus and think faster…

i want a 500 reading without memorizing vocab …i dont have enough time to memorize vocab…i get bored while reading passages and i cant concentrate on the passage …what should i do…i got 670 writing 710 math and 380 reading…im taking the test in october and november and i want a 5oo or 520 reading

joe959595

it can be done easily with these steps :

1- stop watching porn
2- stop dreaming about sheri
3- study hard.
i guarantee u if u followed these steps u will score higher

wth? ^ seriously how did you get that from his post?

Anyway joe, if you are going to be a lazy, You won’t improve. Step it up

lol FATJOE kimmy studying vocab is useless i rather answer more passAGES BUT I GOT A HUGE problem the 2 passages about the same topic but from different authors are sometimes difficult…so that leaves me with the vocab and i get 3 right out of 8 sentence completion and i answer 9 questions from the long passage and get 7 right out of 9…i need any advice

joe959595 - Your 380 for reading is way out of line with the 670 writing and 710 math. Have you ever been assessed for a reading disability? Your low score may have nothing to do with laziness or anything of that sort. If properly diagnosed you will be allowed more time on the SAT.

Studying vocab is useless ? who told u so ? u should study for more hours daily if u really want to improve in just 1 month.

keesh r u really serious lol i dont have any disabilities

i think i could have that cuz when i was young i was mistakenly hit by a baseball bat on my head

satnoob i dont have enough time to memorize vocab

@keesh17 , i don’t think he has such problems

english is not his mother language … he is egyptian

most scores here are like joe… good in maths & writing but bad i CR because maths & writing use simple words that we can understand easier

could anyone suggest any good vocab books or good reading workbooks …tactics private tutors anything…

joe959595, 500 in CR without memorizing the hard vocabulary is very much possible. You need to do more practice, that’s all. Get used to SAT texts. Do all tests that are possible. Barron’s, Kaplan’s, Princeton’s, McGraw’s, Gruber’s, Peterson’s… Lastly the College Board’s.

@ joe959595:

I don’t think you need to memorize vocabulary so much as get what a word means from its context or roots. Do you take Latin/Greek?
