How to say "my counselor is an idiot" to colleges?

I'm not going to go into it because I'll just start ranting, but essentially out of the 12 universities/colleges I applied to, I will probably only be considered for admission at about 3. This is primarily because some of the officials at my school are complete morons.

For some reason or another, my transcripts were either VERY late or never arrived at the majority of the colleges I applied to. I have no idea why this is, as I placed a transcript request at my HS weeks before deadlines began. Half of the colleges I applied to still haven't received them. The other half received them/will be receiving them a month late or more. When I went to ask why this was, I was basically blown off and told to go away.

My guidance counselor is retarded and doesn't know how to do her job. She's new this year. Long story short the colleges that I applied to that require counselor letters of rec probably won't be receiving them. I asked her to write it, she probably forgot, asked her again, she probably forgot again, and then asked her AGAIN 2 weeks ago and she said she'd do it. Deadline was a month ago and I doubt she's even started it. I guess she doesn't have a clear understanding of the complicated concept of "deadlines". Tried to confront her about it and she just blamed me, whining about how I never asked her or didn't follow proper procedure or some other BS.

Anyways, the only colleges that have actually reviewed my app are my safeties. On the bright side, I've gotten in to all 3 of them. On the not-so-bright side, I don't want to go to any of them. How can I contact other colleges trying to explain this situation? It really ****es me off knowing I spent close to $1000 on apps, retook the SAT, and have done all AP classes the last two yrs just to be screwed over by the unprofessional behavior of some officials in my school? It's not like I can ask them to send colleges an email - I'm sure they'll deny they've done anything wrong. How exactly should I format this in an email?

tl;dr - completed my part of the admissions process, highschool didn't do theirs. how to send an email?

You need to have your parents get on the phone to the counselor. If that doesn’t work they need to call the principal. If that doesn’t work they need to contact the superintendent and the board.

Time to take it to the next level. Talk to your parents , give them a list of all the documents that various colleges are missing, and ask them to call the guidance counselor AND principal. If THEY get no response, then have THEM send an email to the guidance counselor, with CC’s to the principal and the superintendent of your school district. List all the documents that the colleges have not yet received from the GC’s office. Make very clear that these documents need to be sent asap in order for your applications to be considered by the colleges you have applied to, and any further delay in sending them will be dealt with by an attorney.

^skip parents, your GC is an idiot. Go to principal or school superintendent and school board. Your a little late on taking the iniatative though, but hopefully not too late. Keep in touch with your colleges’ admissions couselors for your region and fill her in on the situation.

“■■■■■■■■” is not a synonym for annoying, stupid, incompetant, or useless. Just sayin’.

If you plan to send e-mails, just sound impartial on them. Relate the facts with brevity; don’t extend your writing to your opinions as you did on this post.

IMO, you should convey the message that even though you worked hard to have everything by the deadline, there were things that weren’t within your action reach. Maybe by expliciting that this happened to the greatest majority of your applications you can get a better consideration of your situation.

[Mental retardation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Intellectual disability - Wikipedia)

“The term mental retardation is a diagnostic term denoting the group of disconnected categories of mental functioning such as idiot, imbecile, and moron derived from early IQ tests, which acquired pejorative connotations in popular discourse.”

Not the point, I know, but I think you will get farther if you don’t base your argument on blaming others. Document what you did when, then elicit solutions.

“I placed a transcript request at my HS on x date”.

“When I went to ask why this was, I was basically blown off and told to go away.” = “Followed up on X date and was told y by z”.
Then
“What can I do now?”

That sucks. Contact some higher authorities because you don’t deserve this.

It does sound like your counselor is being irresponsible, but could you be totally blameless? I had to ask my AP bio teacher from sophomore year to write me a teacher’s recommendation. I talked to him or emailed him every single day about a week before the rec’s were due. Finally he got them in two days before the deadline. When you want something done, you need to find every possible way. I probably emailed my teacher more than a dozen times and went to find him twice. If I had given him the task and only reminded him three times, he would have definitely forgotten.
It is your future so you must be fully responsible. Blaming your counselor might win some sympathy, but definitely not gain you admissions anywhere. Going to the principal at this time would not help your college admissions unless your principal agrees to write the letter for you. IMO you should go to your counselor and make it clear that this recommendation must be in by the end of the week.

"Dear officers of the admissions commitee,

I regret having to inform you that my high school guidance counsellor is mentally disadvantaged, and could not perform her duty to the degree that you and I were expecting. My counsellor was the sole reason behind my uncomplete application to your institution, and I would not be causing you trouble right now had she followed the instructions correctly. I understand that this incompetence may come as a shock to you, but please be assured in its validity.

Circumstances are tough, but do advise me of further actions.

Sincerely,
xxxx"

You seem to have nailed it down pretty well. What could go wrong?

Only on CC will you find someone actually referring to some “■■■■■■■■” link to explain the commonly and socially understood meaning of ■■■■■■■■…

Sigh/

Get off of CC because many people here are no better than your counselor. Perhaps myself included. Tell you parents and take this to the principal. Take it to the school board.
Apply next year by taking a year off and explain your situation after having confronted this with the school board.
Good luck.

No one caught the fact that “idiot” originally meant mentally challenged person in itself, but “■■■■■■■■” does not mean the same unless used as an adjective for “mentally”?

By itself, “■■■■■■■■” means “slow” or “poorly functioning”. So, in that sense, the counselor was, in fact, ■■■■■■■■.

The problem is connecting “■■■■■■■■” to mentally challenged people. The problem is NOT using the word “■■■■■■■■” by its actual definition.

OP, is this an issue that’s just affected you, or are other students also not having their transcripts and recs sent? If there are others, then all of you and your parents should make a compelling case to the school that there’s been a systematic failure of the process, and a letter to that effect can be sent to the schools along with the late documents.
