have any of you had a problem with lazy school counselors that dont feel the urgent need to send your transcripts in? i am extremely dissapointed in my school right now for a couple reasons. 1) i put a transcript request in for 2 colleges last monday, 2 days before thanksgiving break, and i got a letter today from the colleges saying they still havent gotten them and 2) a girl in my grade asked if the school could please get her transcripts sent asap because the deadline was a week from then. they said sure no problem, and sure enough they hadnt even sent it by the deadline. this makes me extremely mad because half of our counselors job is to assure college placement for seniors and they can't even do that...

Yeah, that happens from time to time......

It can get frustrating, but if the problem persists, write a letter to your principal. You also have to remember that your transcript takes time to be put into the system (apparently the University of Arizona takes 4 weeks to put a transcript into the system, but so long as it's postmarked by the deadline, you'd be fine.)

I am so angry right now... I just received a letter in the mail today saying that my High School Transcript needs to be sent by December 1st(Today) to be considered for Early Action. My counselor told me that she mailed everything like 3 weeks ago. I think she could be telling the truth because I know for a fact that one of my schools has received the transcript. It is just really aggravating because I worked really hard on my app and had everything sent in on time and now I could potentially not find out about my top choice until February...

My school counselor handles ALL the kids grades 7-12 (like 800 kids) and basically the secretaries are lazy and don't understand college deadlines.

I feel your pain, op. I just need to be accepted into college, and I can forget about all this junkalunkkkkkk.

It's also your job to give them plenty of time to submit it- they do have other seniors to deal with besides you.
That's why my school has a mandated 3 week period- you better get your request in 3 weeks before the deadline or not complain when it is missed.

I'll second that. The chance of your school sending in your transcript (less than 2 weeks ago) and the college receiving it/uploading it to their system is very small.

my school has a transcipt office that is seperate from the counseloring department

yes i understand that i need to give them time to send it in, which i did. it doesnt need to be in until the 17th, it just ticks me off because they always give us these speeches that transcripts will be sent asap (which for them means when they feel like getting around to it). its not a very soothing feeling when you go into the G.O. to see if they have sent your transcript, only to find your transcript request sitting on a pile of papers while the counselor is playing solitaire (true story).

I didn't mean for my last post to be as harsh as it was...
I completely understand your anguish, athough mine is ACT related rather than transcript.
I submitted my request for my ACT to be sent the first week of September (it was the June ACT), and all of my colleges received and uploaded my scores by the beginning of October. All except my safety state school. They sent me about 12 emails saying they couldn't look at my app until they were in, so I called ACT- apparently they had sent it, but the school just hadn't processed it. It took them over 2.5 months to process it in the end... that's just ridiculous.

I agree. Putting in a request 2 days before Thanksgiving break, and expecting that transcripts will be received by the colleges by the end of the next week is not a reasonable expectation of virtually any school in the country.

Probably most high schools that CC members attend have to send out 1,000 or more transcripts. Just think about it: If 200 seniors each apply to 5 colleges then that's 1000 transcripts that need to be sent out. That's not even including the transcripts needed for jobs, scholarships and other things.

If, for instance, a college app is due Dec. 1, at most high schools, students would be expected to have requested that their transcript be sent out at least 3 weeks beforehand.

johnson-dont worry i didnt take ur first post harshly at all n that sucks about the act's.
thenorthstarmom-i dont think its rediculous at all to expect transcripts to be received nearly 2 weeks after the request was issued. i had a couple transcript request sent in earlier in the year (when they were actually on top of stuff) and i got my notification that they were received from both colleges within a week.

It takes time to send transcripts! My school requests that you ask them for transcripts two weeks ahead of the time you want them postmarked. Of course, they are usually sent out a few days later, if not the next day, but during the busy season when 3000 colleges all have the same deadline, it can take some time.
