I didn't apply ED and visiting is out of the question (I live thousands of miles away), so how do I show Wash U that it's not just some school I added on to my list because it has no supplement?

schedule an alumni interview. Go to their presentations if they come to your town. If there is a specific program you are interested in, mention it somewhere in your application.

Do they visit high schools, etc? I can't seem to find it on their website ... I can only find on campus info sessions

Lurker, they do road shows in various cities. I believe the bulk of those are in September and October but do not know.

Here are a few thoughts for you:

Despite the distance, if you are in the US, flights to St. Louis are pretty cheap these days. We paid less than $200 for our round trip tickets. There is a train from the airport to the campus which costs a few dollars. Lastly there is a University operated place to stay on campus or the admissions office can arrange for you to stay with a student. So going there may not be as difficult as you think. If money is your limitation, ask them for financial assistance to visit. I have no idea if they will do it, but there is no harm in asking, and asking shows you are serious.

If you absolutely cannot go, get your application in. Then correspond with the admissions office regularly. Ask them questions (not too often, but periodically). Log into your account frequently. Request materials in writing. Ask if they have any videos of the campus. Send separate requests to the various departments. If you know the areas you wish to study, write the Dean and ask if you can speak with an advisor in that area.

Apply for one of the merit scholarships and special programs, especially any program that requires interviews.

Make the admissions office aware of all of this activity. As always, make them genuine activities; do not do them just to say you did.

In short, if you want them to believe you are interested, then be interested! There are too many kids on these boards who are constantly trying to figure out how to LOOK like a good appplicant instead of how to BE a good applicant. By even asking this question, I assume you are very serious about Wash U. So tell them you are serious, interact with them, and they will see the same thing.

Good luck.

Lurker- a rep. visited my school, as well as a few other schools in the area (on top of the local information session).
