how to show interest in a school

What is the best way to show a school that you really want to go there? I am looking at Rice, Emory and Wash U but I really don't think I will be headed there to do any campus visits. Should I simply contact their admissions office or contact one of their professors? Has anyone ever done something like this and does it improve a person's chance of getting in the school?

I mean i am looking at their websites and reading a lot about each university but the admissions officers obviously don't know that. Any help would be great. thanks

Call admissions offices, get on mailing lists, etc

so are you saying just to pretty much call them/ e-mail them and ask more about the school/give your name and stuff…im already on the mailing list for most of the universities (its the flyers they send home right).

Yeah, also sign up for their websites online too.

Exploit yourself like a tool. jk.

Why would you call the admissions office? To say Hi? I don’t think so, buddy.

If you’re truly interested in a college, you wouldn’t even be asking this question. You’d be doing everything you can to find out more about the college and decide whether that college is right for you. How do you find out more about colleges? Look at their websites, get brochures from them, visit the school if you can (maybe there are programs where they pay you to visit–some colleges have those), look at guidebooks, talk to students who go there if you can, meet up with the college representative when he/she visits your area, ask that representative questions you have about the college, contact a professor in a department that you’re interested in, and ask that professor about what resources there are in your major (you’re lucky if the professor actually responds), and get an interview. Sure, looking at guidebooks at your local library or bookstore isn’t going to directly help you get in, but that’s not the point. The point is that you want to find the college that’s right for you, and you want to find out as much about the colleges as you can. The point is not to make you look good.
