How do you guys stay organized with so many papers and textbooks? My school starts in two weeks and I'm trying to figure out the best system. In the past I've had one or two big binders with everything in them, but I'm worried I'll have too many papers to keep track of for that to work.

Get a folder and a notebook for each class. Keep loose papers in the folder and take neat notes in your notebook. Date each entry, to make it easier to find when you review. Keep all your notebooks in one drawer, your folders in another.

smorgabord, are you fan of Cal Newport :)

Just embrace the chaos.

I start out with a notebook and folder for each class, but I end up with one notebook, one folder, and a mess that only I can find stuff in. XD So I’m not much help…

I categorize things by color and keep my notes separate from my assignments.

I buy three-ring binders, but wind up too lazy to put the papers and the rings and then just stuff everything into the pockets.

:D

I’ve carried around a big ole, suitcase-lookin’ thing with folders for all my classes in it. It’s true. I’ve almost never had any issue with forgetting things. It has a zipper around the outside so nothing falls out.

I don’t recommend it though, folks start lookin’ at cha funny. Also, it’s a tad cumbersome.

discipline, then binders and stuff you can have a billion binders and still be unorganized ha

How did you know? ;)

This A+ system has worked for me for years, lol.

I try to have one general folder and a notebook per class and then after each unit/quarter/whatever, I put the loose papers into a big binder for each class.

In the beginning of the year, organize whatever you have to make it as easy as possible for you. If you have a binder, don’t make so many specific sections that you’ll get annoyed whenever you have to put something in it. What my 8th grade teacher recommended was the “Business” section for things like progress reports, projects, etc. Then there was the “Content” section for all the worksheets, classwork, etc type stuff. There was a “Tests/Quizzes” section for tests and quizzes we got back. And last there was a section for review packets that we got at the end of the year to study for our exams.

If you keep a notebook, here’s a method to help keep it organize. Instead of doodling on THAT paper, keep loose leaf paper with you so you can write your notes in your notebook, but once the teacher goes off on a lecture, you can doodle on your loose leaf.

I agree with that! Another good option is to keep an “Important” folder, or something similar. Essentially, a place where you can put important documents that you cannot afford losing.
