How to Stop Yourself From Making Silly Mistakes

So this may be a stupid question. But honestly, sometimes silly mistakes are what kill me. For example, on the SAT Subject Math II today, I got one of the absolute value questions wrong(abs(3x + 5) = -(abs(x+5)), or something like that) because I overlooked the negative.

So is there a foolproof way to stop youself from making silly mistakes?(Or at least reduce the chance of it)

Do the problem twice. It wastes time, but the second time you should be doing the problem just to verify, and thus it should not take you as long. Or you just check over your method, and see if there are any errors. Read every problem twice (this works for me). And the SAT Math 2 was hard, I think I got at most a 730.
