I am planning on applying early to either Yale or Columbia. I have already requested letters of recommendation from two teachers, both of whom agreed to write them. Because my school uses Naviance, I don't believe teachers can submit letters of recommendation online via the Common App. So they will need to be sent by mail.

I can address and stamp envelopes to the schools for the teachers, but how will the colleges link the letter to my application? The teachers asked for recommendation forms for the colleges, but I couldn't find any for either school online. Also, should these letters be submitted after my common application has been submitted, or can they be submitted at any time?

CommonApp has a section where you type in a teacher’s name, check “offline” and then are able to print out recommendation forms that you give to them. That’s how colleges link recs with students. Even if a school doesn’t use CommonApp, it should still have a similar option.

On the School Forms page, it says:

For transcripts, school reports and teacher recommendations, your school is using Naviance eDocs. Please contact your counselor directly and they will provide instructions specific to your school regarding these documents. Once your counselor and teachers submit their school forms you will be able to view their status here.

I guess I’ll have to ask my guidance counselor about it. I’d love to bypass the guidance office entirely for my teacher recommendations since that will save me a lot of time, but if that’s my only option, I have no other choice.
