How to Transfer out of Cornell

Hey Guys,

Thankfully I was admitted to Cornell for the Class of 2017. One significant disappointment about Cornell, however, is Ithaca. The weather is bad, but most significantly the city is small. I am already having difficulty finding a decent job, let alone internships. I'm sure there are many opportunities, but surely there will be ten times as many as in, say, New York City (Columbia University) or Boston (Harvard).

How would I, a Cornell freshman, go about a transfer? When should I apply? Should I take a lot of courses, or just focus on doing very well?

How much weight will be put on high school stats?

Thanks guys!

You haven’t even GOT to college yet… Give it a chance. Anyways, I’m an incoming freshman as well so I don’t have info on how you transfer or what they look at. I just hope you’ll enjoy the feel of a small town for a while! It’s a great experience, too, you know. Someone else can answer the transfer question.

You’ve decided all of this before you’ve even started? Looking back on some of your previous posts you at one time talked about taking a gap year. Perhaps you should revisit that idea before investing a large amount of money on a college that you will enter looking to find what is wrong with it, rather than feeling grateful that you were accepted there.

I’m not following you.
IF – you are a High School graduating Senior and starting as a freshman this fall --THEN – what kind of job do you expect to find? regardless of how smart we are I think high school kids do things like scoop ice-cream and flip burgers… then once we start at college we begin our career trajectory and seek out internships and other entry level work.

It sounds like you didn’t get into Harvard or Columbia on your first try and you are using Cornell as a stepping stone. I assume transferring into Harvard or Columbia could be a very real possibility if you get good grades and get good recommendations from Cornell.
From what I understand Cornell is a very good school that could allow you unlimited potential but it looks pretty bad to crap on it even before you get there.

I am only a Junior in HS but for what its worth you sound kind of spoiled & ungrateful … I don’t think I could ask my Mom & Dad for money on a place I don’t want to go to.

Columbia and Harvard have transfer rates below 5%. I wouldn’t bet on getting accepted.

If you don’t like Cornell, why didn’t you choose another school?
