How to transfer to a 4-year school?

I'm currently a student at a community college in New York taking five classes over the summer. This fall will be my last semester here and after that I will have enough credits to meet the requirements and get my degree. However the school does not officially award your Associate's degree until December.

Should I wait until after December to apply to a 4-year school or can I apply as soon as possible after the Common App opens on August 1? I'm applying for the Spring 2014 semester, as in I plan on going in the school I'm accepted to by then. I'm just really confused because I feel like I shouldn't be applying before I finish fall semester, and also because of the December date when the degree is officially given out.

I’d imagine that Spring uses the current Common App. You don’t really need to wait to get your degree. The transfer school will likely ask that you submit your Fall grades, but if you currently have enough credits to transfer you should apply now.
