How to type without looking at the keyboard.

I just want to know how because I use the computer alot - obviously. I already know how to type pretty fast while looking at the keyboard.

Where exactly am I supposed to rest my fingers.

P.S. I use AIM and MSN aLOT!

I average about 130-150 WPM average, and a few years ago I was about 75.

Considering that the worlds fastest typists barely top out much higher, I find this hard to believe.

maybe he IS the fastest typist in the world. lol
But I doubt that :)

really, it takes practice. It will come slowly but surely. In 7th grade, I was a finger puncher 15 wpm, but by the end of the year, I was 1/2 doing it right and at about 25 wpm. that was the only class/forced practice I had. 3 years later, I do not have to look and I'm at about 50-65 wpm (it really varies).

I agree with the whole IM thing, that does help. But don't go and buy a typing book or any of that ****, just learn as you go.

oh, and btw, the fastest typer in the world was something like 300 wpm. At least, that is what my former computer teacher said. He said that he personally had a student who typed in hs 100 wpm.

50 -60 words per minute sounds good enough. Who would want to type that fast anyway.
can someone please explain what you mean by "rest your hands in a certian place" and "rest your fingers" -- or does that come by practice as well?

keep your arms and hands off of the desk. It will hurt your fingers/wrists after a while of typing. And keep your fingers in rows starting with your left index on f and going left and with your right index on j and going right.

ASC,

Actually, according to several sources on the Internet...

, Barbara Blackburn is the fastest English language typist in the world, according to The Guinness Book of World Records. Using the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard, she has maintained 150 word/min for 50 min and 170 word/min for shorter periods and has been clocked at a peak speed of 212 word/min.

wow, that was confusing, I'm still trying to figure it out.lol. I've got it all layed out but as soon as I start typing I go back to what I usually do

that quote makes it seem as if she is a car! Also, I quickly learned the layout of my keyboard via fps games and such.

Yeah, it is kind of hard for me even know to keep my arms off of the desk and whatnot, because for some reason, it makes me type the wrong keys sometimes.

But good luck, I suppose, with your typing technique.

yeah, I think that it'll come with practice as well.

but wouldn't that method leave a few keys out range.
I mean, if you have one of your fingers on f and the other on j and they both move in opposite directions then wouldn't the keys in the middle be out of that range. Namely the:
t y
g h

There should be little tabs on your f and j keys, which is "proof" that your fingers are supposed to go there. L Index: B, Y, H
R index: T, G, B.

hey, there actually are little tabs. lol. I never notived them!
But it's still difficult to keep each hand on one side. I'm much more used to using whichever hand is closer at the time.

I understand....it will come with time.

Oh geeze, apparently i do not know my left from my right. Yeah, reverse what I said.

key to learning to type well: chat alot on ims

so my left hand moves to the right and my right goes to the left? Won't my fingers get tangled? I'm confused. lol.

Here, let me try this again:

Left Hand: all keys to the left of, including: tgv
Right Hand: all keys to the right of, including: yhn. And as far as B goes, I cant really help you.

okay now I think I get it.
This is going to need a LOT of work.

Thanks!

True, but I can't maintain that speed for an extended period of time. This is what separates me from the world's fastest.
