How useful is the Yale interview?

We were not expect anything from Yale since there was never an interview scheduled/arranged for my S.

Rather surprisingly, he was accepted. We wonder if this is common or the interview doesn't put much weight on the process.

Check out the thread RD Applicants: Interview Advice for everything you ever wanted to know about alumni interviews. Short answer: the interview doesn't carry much weight and getting/not getting one says nothing about your chances for admission.

Thank you for the reply. I checked the couple of threads which you have commented on common practice for Yale interview process. I just thought that it's a little bit unusual in my case as we live in Bay Area where there are sure lots of interviewers for Yale admission process.

There are also tons of applicants in the Bay Area--probably more than the interviewers, which are only a small fraction of Yale alumni, can handle.

I think it is extremely useful for intl applicants
