I play 4 instruments. With my main instrument, drums, I’ve played in big bands, done summer programs, done community service, and other various extracurricular things. However, I’m wondering how valuable my skill at the other three instruments will be on applications considering that I’ve never really used that skill for anything other than my own personal projects. Will it add anything substantial to my applications?
I’d assume it depends on your intended major and if the importance of these skills and your passion for them is woven into your application in other ways.
Talent is special. However, admissions is based on everything submitted. A talent lasts forever so be glad of your musical skill and gifts. I hope you are admitted to the school you want to attend.
It also depends where you apply; at a school like st Olaf it would matter; for your flagship’s honors college, it’d help; at a numbers-based university, it wouldn’t matter.
What do you mean by “numbers-based”?
^ a school that makes its acceptance decisions by a formula of GPA and test scores.
I think it will help you if you convey that you will join musical groups on campus. Talent is meaningful if you contribute to the life of the college ( I would imagine)
@sherpa I didn’t realize any universities did admissions that way. Could you give me some examples?
There are lots of them, including LSU.

Most state flagships.
Individual achievements are useful tobget into the Honors college though.
