^so yeah, no APs but 2 Honors credits.

Volunteering/clubs:
50+ hours of volunteering at hospital
90 hours of volunteering at museum
10 hours at various community service projects (through Key Club)
(my school's) Pre-Medical Association

^not bad? I plan on continuing at the hospital and applying for an apprenticeship this year, may return to museum if I have time. Key Club and the Pre-Med club are terribly organized and boring at my school and I will probably not return, looking for other clubs at this point

Sometimes I forget this website is full of over-achievers. Seriously, that’s more than I ever did as a freshman in high school. Hell, I’d say that now (well, I took a good amount of honors classes in college).

You know that many people intend to but do not go through with getting into medical school, right?

Seriously though, like the above poster said…you’re fine.

You’re a freshman. (Stop comparing yourself to CCers.) You’ve done really well. There are some colleges that don’t even look at freshman year. Just add a couple more ECs this year and you’ll be fine.

I think, more than anything, your drive to do well and succeed in school is what makes your doing well so far. This is evidenced in your focus at such an early time in high school, but I could just be saying so as proportionate to me, since I didn’t really start caring until the second half of 11th grade, but managed only As somehow (going into 12th next week).

If I had that drive for college or a purpose for school other than slightly more arbitrary reasons to do whatever it took for an A, then I would have taken more out of school and done better. The few A-s would have turned into normal As for sure, and the stored knowledge would be increased. As well as this, I had no desire for anything extracurricular other than playing basketball during its season, which looking back could have been a bad choice, but I was just too consumed with video games (don’t play them anymore, except on rare occasions with friends).

To have a drive to evaluate yourself after such an early stage (through my perception) and seek to improve and fix what is lacking (you spoke of your few honors classes and ECs), is a good spot to be in. Your freshman year was good because you didn’t mess up academically, and you care enough to look back and fix the areas surrounding the academics that could be optimized (although doing things just because they are viewed highly by colleges might not be the best choice).
