So great to see Lizardkid. He completely impressed us with his grades and how he is handling everything at school. Same kid, but yet, different. We also continue to be so impressed by his school and feel like they are really living up to their reputation.
Ours was great. Absolutely perfect weather, great energy. School announced just prior to the weekend that they are abandoning AP classes, but it seemed to be a non issue. Sadly did not run in to @dramakid2 or @parentofnicekid but saw lots of other old and new friends. Kid is a 10th grader, so not yet in full stress mode but also did not really want us sticking around… we’re in that in-between year. Family weekend is just about my fav of the year.
Had my last parent teacher conference ever two weeks ago. Third and youngest kid is a senior. Bittersweet. Some parents think of themselves as empty nesters when their kids go to boarding school but college kid empty nest is an entirely different animal.
It was nice to meet teachers whom in my mind were horrible monsters. They were actually super nice and much more flexible than I anticipated based on kid’s limited throughput of info.
Interesting to me was that every other parents felt the same way. Thought the teachers were going to be one way and discovered them to be quite the opposite. Every parent agreed homework was insane and kids’ were all digging out of holes 24/7. Some kids doing well, some not so well, but no one reported a moderate/reasonable homework load.
Same here, with one exception I really liked my kid’s teachers. And enjoyed attending the classes as well as meeting other parents.
