how were we supposed to know that higher vicsosity means fluids' flow resistance?

The passage didn't say ANYWHERE what viscosity is supposed to mean.

from your science classes

are you sure the little snippet of information given didn't hint at it? i don't know.. i didn't look that that crap.. i was just fortunate to have ap chem this last year and know about it.. if it didn't talk about it's meaning, even vaguely, then that's pretty bogus

and on the first passages, i couldn't figure out which phase went with which picture... luckily i guess right (based on what little bio i still have in my brain from 2 years ago in 9th grade).. i have ap bio next year.. but that doesn't help me now.. i thought the mitosis one questions 4 and 5 were a little stupid.. i got lucky and guess them right, but i still thought it was dumb.. unless i missed something, then i'm an idiot

Because it's a common word that high school juniors should know? That was even in my 8th grade science book.

I know that viscosity either means how fast a liquid moves or how slow a liquid moves but the last time I saw that word was like 9th grade or something.

The mitosis question was bogus too.

yeah it was... it took me 3 minutes to remember what prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase were.. i could have used 2 of those minutes on the last passage...............

we should complain to the act people.

The ACT isn't supposed to test science knowledge.

Oh well, at least I still have my SAT score.

i'm just the opposite.. my SAT is only a 31 on the ACT... my ACT score kicks the SAT's butt... i despise the SAT

you're right.. the science section is supposed to test your interpretations of the GIVEN information.. outside info helps, but everything should be there in front of you... not the case here...

The ACT states that it is assumed you have had a biology course. So, you can't blame them for that.

As for viscosity, that's just an English word that anyone should know...

If your act score kicks your sat score's butt, you must have a really good act score.

nice

i know some schools that do some physical science thing for 9th grade and biology for 10th... some people take the ACT after their 9th grade years and have no biology... maybe a little middle-school bio, but not enough for the ACT.. the majority of people should have biology, yes, but i've never seen a science section that doesn't give you everything you need to know (of course, it's always hidden in there somewhere, but i didn't see any hidden info today)

thanks. my ACT is a 34... i have no idea why my SAT can't be like a 2250 or 2300, but it just can't.. it's a 2070.. it's stupid

i wouldn't retake if i had a 34.

that's 100 points higher than my sat score.

I think the mitosis question was the real unfair one :(

i just retook it to boost my 7 on writing.. and if i don't do as well as i did before, no college will ever see it.. so it was no-lose.. plus, i wasn't nervous since i was already set anyway

a 7 is average and colleges really just want to see you took it.. but i just wanted to see if possibly, maybe i could get a 35 or 36 with a 9+ on writing.. well, i think i may possibly get a 34 again with a 9 on writing, so it could be good.. but if it's lower, i just won't let any college know i took it at all

I know.

This was seriously the first time I have EVER seen 3 act questions where the info is not hidden in there somewhere.

Seriously, for the mitosis question, I knew how many cells the phase was supposed to have, but I was still ridiculously confused.

the mitosis one SUCKED... i got it right, but i had to guess at it AND it cost me time.. that ****ed me off.... maybe since it's like this more people will get some more wrong, and the curve will be good.. hopefully it'll be like that

ouch.

How do colleges even factor in the writing section?

Would a 34 with a 7 on writing be regarded in the same light as a 33 with a 10 on writing or a 33 without the writing?

the writing doesn't affect the composite at all

it's just that i really had a bad writing day and getting my thoughts gathered was hard for some reason

I couldn't believe some of the science questions! the mitosis ones got me too, and i would have definitely answered the viscosity question wrong if i didn't change my own oil on my car.

my science score is most probably going down from my feb score.

i thought the february science was harder than this one.. this one was still sucky in some areas though
