I’ve been wondering for a while how different the education system is from the one were i live .I don’t know if admission offices look at how international high schools work and if they will understand my transcript.
I’ll do a description of my classes and how my high school works.
i know the divisions of the system are different (we go to primary school from 1st grade to 5th grade and high school goes from 6th grade to 11th grade)
we don’t have elective classes, all classes are mandatory
the classes i had as a primary school student were : spanish, portuguese, oral and written communication, english, religion, biology, math, geometry,PE,ethics, art, dance and music classes as well as chess.
As a high school student my classes are physics, biology, math, chemestry, statistics , geometry (until 8th grade), chess (until 8th grade), english , spanish , religion, ethics, philosophy, art history and P.E.
(french and portuguese too)
We go to school from 6:45 am to 2:45 from monday to friday
and from 7 am to 11 am on saturdays (only in 11th grade and only chemistry and physics )
with daily exams since 3rd grade up until 11th grade. We have two big exams apart from daily exams on each class.
the first one evaluates all topics seen on that subject for the last 2 to 4 years.
the final exam evaluates all topics from the subject for the school year that just finished.
these exams are usually 2/3 hours.
math in my school goes up to calcullus.
biology up to microbiology.
At the end of our school life we need to engage in a project (kind of like a thesis/dissertation for a phd but in high school)were we apply our knowledge to the field we would like to choose for the rest of our education (takes 2 years to complete)
How is this different from normal high schools in the us ? and do you think this woud be particular or weird to an applications office? do they even look at how certain high schools work in other countries?
