after earning a couple of B's, i decided to retake the classes during the summer to bring them up to A's, although the previous grade still appears on my transcript with the new grade below it. How will most colleges look at this when calculating my gpa?

I would think your going to summer school to raise a couple grades will tell the AO two things: you’re willing to work hard to get the best grades (and that bodes well for your college days), and you’re very grade conscious.

They’ll want to see if you have a balanced resumé that also demonstrates the ability to have fun and to engage in ECs.

Will they consider the grades as Bs or As?

That depends on the school. At Univ of California it would count as a B.

May a student who receives a C in an “a-g” course in the ninth grade repeat the course in the 10th grade and try for a higher grade?

No. A student may only repeat a course in which a D or an F was earned. In this case, if the student repeated the course and earned an A or a B, the higher grade would not be counted.

Why are you bumping? It depends on the school. If you want an answer contact the schools on your application list.
