Last semester I screwed up everything and got 1.x as my final GPA. It was all my fault. I got a C, C, C- and a D-. So I passed everything. But I am wondering, should I retake all those courses in summer? At my school, they don't completely replace the old grades with new grades but average them out so both old grades and new grades appear on the transcript. It will still bring up my overall GPA though. Or should I just move on with those grades and take new courses in summer in order to earn some credits? What is a wise choice? I personally want to retake everything in summer and bring my GPA up but I don't know if it's worth it since my old grades will appear on my transcript anyway. Please help me out!

A D- is passing? Anything below 70 here is not passing.

anything above an F is considered passing
so what should i do?

Aren’t you on academic probation if your GPA is below 2.0?

You sure anything above an F is passing? Where do you go to school? I have never heard that before.

I think you should just do new courses for the summer, while taking that D- course. With respect to the others, unless you intend to get As in these courses, so that you can average around a B, I think you’re wasting your time trying to do them all over again.

It’s not worth going through the trouble of doing over again if you’re going to gain less than a letter grade after the grades are averaged together and computed.

Honestly, I would try to retake the D- course. Unless you are on scholarship, I wouldn’t bother with the courses you got C’s in, but I would DEFINITELY try to do better next semester.

Thanks for the replies.
BTW, how bad is my situation right now? I thought I screwed up so I would work hard for the rest of the school years and I’ll be ok. Am I being stupid? Am I overlooking some really serious problem here?? I am an international student. Would I possibly be rejected from the country or get my visa revoked?

I believe that anything above an F is passing. However if you wanted to take the next level of a course like going from Calc I to Calc II, you would need a C to move on to the next course or you have to retake the class.
Assuming this is your first semester of college, you still have 7 semesters to bring that GPA up. Change your study habits, go to office hours, and you’ll be able to bring your grades up. Also what I’ve noticed at least at my school, higher credit courses count a lot more towards your GPA. Really focus on those classes because they can really boost or hurt your GPA. As a freshman I don’t know much but I hope this helps. Good luck!

You’ll need to get serious next semester and get a much better GPA. That should help balance out this past semester’s. Then go talk to academic advising and see what they recommend.

No, this shouldn’t affect the visas, but I don’t know for sure. Call your advisor/academic advising office or even your college’s office for international students and ask. They will know more than an internet forum.

And the question of whether a D is passing or not is irrelevant because that varies from college to college. My college has it as passing but that course will most likely not count for anything. Most departments/majors won’t accept any class with a grade below a C. That’s for my college. The OP may have a different system.
