How will colleges view my grades?

All are weighted grades

9th grade:

1st sem 4.375

2nd sem 4.375

10th grade

1st sem 4.000

2nd sem 3.214

11th grade

1st sem 2.571 (f...)

2nd sem 3.875

12th grade

1st sem 4.714

Overall GPA: 3.934 weighted, 3.3 unweighted.

I was doing good, then went down, then went up.

Is this trend common amond highschoolers?

Your first semester junior year average drop is not common. That it follows a significant drop in your second semester sophomore average would be noticed. If the drop was due to personal issues, then it’s more understandable.

The unweighed average I think carries much more importance than the weighted average.

That you’ve done extremely well in your first year senior semester should help balance the concern over the earlier drop.

Weighted GPA doesn’t matter, since weighting isn’t standardized. Lower GPAs can be compensated for with an upward trend, but unfortunately your last semester sophomore/first semester junior year drop isn’t going to look good. Junior year is the most rigorous year, and you’re expected to take it in stride. Some schools recalculate GPA using their own standards, and the UCs (I think…and I think other schools follow similar procedures, though I could be wrong) throw out freshman grades and double the weight of junior year grades.
