How will financial aid work (towards books, etc.)?

Hi everyone, I would like to ask about how financial aid will work in the fall. I have been meaning to get books ahead of time before they run out and other inconveniences - this is because of my past experiences with community college. In any case, should I pay the books out of my pocket now? Is there a bank account I must set up to receive the excess aid? Would I be able to receive the excess aid for housing, food, and books with my personal account?

Thank you very much for your time.

If you don’t have a Suntrust FSU account, you should set one up at the Suntrust next to the FSUCard Center and bookstore, and then link your FSUCard to the account. Then do the Account Refund Setup under Secure Apps on Blackboard. This is easier than waiting for a check to be mailed to you so that you can deposit it into your own account.

Buying books on financial aid is simple: You go to the bookstore, find your books, and fill out the form for the bookstore to submit to financial aid to pay when aid is disbursed.
However, if you have the money to buy them anyway, you should look elsewhere- the bookstore is ridiculously overpriced for books. It’s also a pretty good idea to wait until the first day of class and see if the professor actually requires a book at all. Only a few classes truly require the book in my experience.

Once aid is disbursed to your account, any excess is either put into your FSU account at Suntrust, or a check is mailed to you (you have to pick which one in Blackboard). The Suntrust option is a lot quicker and easier though.

Thank you.
