How will my application be read?

First of all, I would like to express my thanks to the wonderful community and those who have answered my concerns! You guys/and gals are the best! I have another question to ask though. I am an international student studying at an American Highschool, so how will Harvard look/or compare my application? Is it be region where I have my highschool education or what? I know that MIT compares by nationality regardless of educational locations.

They’ll more easily be able to evaluate your academics b/c you’re in a US high school. However, being an international, you’ll be in a more disadvantaged pool b/c that one is much more crowded. H is similar to MIT

@T26E4 : I see. Thanks a lot!!

Your application will be essentially treated as a domestic student, but I suspect that Harvard will compare you to both students from your school/region AND your country, so it might be a bit tougher, but not a whole a lot that you should worry. This is what I think they do, not 100% sure. But I was in the same situation as you. I am an international student studying at an U.S public school. I was accepted in EA couple months ago, and I received a hand-written letter from the admission officer designated to the region I lived in instead from the admission officer that takes care of international applicants, so that made me suspect that it’s the regional admission officer who reads your application and that you will be most likely compared to students from your school if there is any comparison to be made. Good luck!

@venomamba : Thank you so much for your reply! Congratulations again on getting accepted EA! I’m just nervously waiting for the RD date which is 1 month away. Your insight really helps me understand how my application is read.

@T26E4 I disagree. Harvard has admissions officers who specialise in international schools and they have an officer just for Britain as well. They tend to know the major international schools very well. International students also have the benefit of being “different” by definition. The admissions rate for candidates from the UK is noticeably higher than for the US.

@Brexit99 : So what do you think about the current situation that I am in? Will an international admission officer look at my profile or will a regional admission officer look at it?

You will be reviewed by the admissions officer covering your school. They will know your school and may have visited. However, for purposes of orientation etc., you will be treated as a US student.

@Brexit99 : Thank you very much good sir. A bit off-topic but is the user name that you have chosen a reference to the UK referendum from the EU right now? Just wondering.

It’s a joke about it–1999 being the year the Tories first said they’d take us out of the EU. I’m definitely an “IN” however. As our most university age people I know. I want more opportunities, not fewer ones. And I’m happy to be a European as well as a Brit!

@Brexit99 : I see, thanks for the clarification!
