I think I have a good chance at BC and did apply, but I’m worried about the financial aid. I heard they aren’t too generous with aid. So if my EFC is 0 and am very low-income, how will the financial aid be? Will the finaid be mostly loans or mostly grants?

You'll get a great package. A huge chunk will be grants.

Our EFC was 8900 we got a 24000 scholarship and a perkins and stafford loans

Our EFC was 17K and my S just got his aid letter today. He got a lousy $900 grant. So yeah, I'd say their not very generous. He had already been leaning toward UNC, but they sealed the deal.

RelaxDad- with an EFC of 17K I would think you would get more than the 900grant. Why not call the school and ask for an appeal.

For us, we have a few more schools to wait on but if the outcome is anything like what Boston offered us, D is happy to go to one of our state U's who invited her to their scholars program. With a small outside scholarship and a possiblity of a pres scholarship at this U, it will cost us next to nothing to go and D will do fine-- for this school is as good a fit as any and probably better in other areas if she decides to change majors.

Thanks, janesmom, but we'll pass on the appeal. Our S has decided upon other options anyway. I didn't mean to sound bitter, I just thought it strange that he was invited to their honors program, but was given short shrift on aid. We made the mistake of paying down our mortgage for the past few years, which pumped up our equity in the CSS and I think that is probably why we got hosed. We expected more because our D is currently a soph at another Boston school. He's in at UVA and UNC and they are almost half the cost without aid! Good luck to your daughter, wherever she decides.
