How will THIS affect me? Help I need advice!

Well, my grades came in the mail today and they looked great. My GPA went from a 3.86 to a 3.88. My grade percent average went from a 93.2 to a 94.2. But when I look at my rank I'm not top 10% anymore. I am little devistated and I'm wondering if I should even send my mid-year report.
How can my grades rise but my rank fall?

You have to send it as soon as they’re available; there’s no if.

Also, your answer will vary for different colleges.

I am applying to:
Vanderbilt
Emory
UNC:CH
Georgia Tech
UGA

Your grades can rise but rank fall if other classmates had their grades rise even more than you did.

60 people dropped out of my class, could that be the reason?

Yes, if 60 people dropped out of your class, they were likely in the bottom 90% and it would adversely impact your rank. That would explain the change in your rank without other students doing better than you did this term.

Your grades this term and your improvement in GPA is terrific!

Your midyear report should also show the total number of students in your class. So, the students dropping out would be visible to an astute admissions officer if they compared the midyear & earlier report.

Less people. Wow that was a big drop. Instead of being say 50 out of 500, now your 50 out of 440 if they were all ranked below you. Ouch! That is not your fault though so maybe the college should get a letter of explanation from your gc. Sorry this happened.

Thank you so much.I will certainly take your advice Shiloh77. I’m a little more at ease.

60 dropouts senior year! Wow, that is stunning attrition for the sake of making the effort to just get through May.

So, I went to my counselor and he said 60 people have either moved, dropped out (I know a few of those students),or failed and are still in the 11th grade. I have no control over this but how will the schools I listed above view this change. I have already applied to those schools and was in the top 10% when I applied.
