New Higher GPA/RANK after Senior Year 1st semester--->Can it help?

My GPA after 1st semester of my senior year turned to go from a 3.83 to a 3.87 and my rank went up 4 spots.... will college consider this?

yeah, if you send/they require a mid year report

it all plays into why they ask you to send the midyear report. they will love that you did so well first semester. however, it will only play into a portion of your application.

Most likely they'll update your application file, and use this new rank/GPA in evaluating you. It'll probably help if you're a "maybe". I know Dan @ Tufts posted on the Tufts board saying that Mid-Years are really important in updating your file.

alright to what extent will it help me? i know i overpassed in rank this girl who is applying to the same school as me plus she failed a REALLY easy regular/non-honors class.

most colleges say they dont compare students from the same school. that being said, you are still being judged against the entire applicant pool. that girl may have been hurt by first semester but you probably wont gain from her failure

4 spots from 16 to 12 is different than going from rank 4 to 1. It depends on where you were, are, and what school you are referring to. lol but at least maybe your chances are better than the other girl from your school..

its from 17 to 13 and its for Vandy

out of a class of...?
if its like 50 then it can be a big lift
but it its 1000 then it wont be too much of a difference

out of 400

the increase in rank will help you a little bit then. it could give you the extra boost you need to move you from the maybe pile to the yes pile

Well, you'd still be in the top 5% which was good to begin with. Even though it's not a significant increase, I think the trend you are showing in your mid-year will be nice. Without knowing your SATs and everything else, you seem to be in the match range GPA/Rank wise. Hopefully the jumps you made 1st semester will force them to anticipate that the same will happen 2nd smester and they will accept you. Either way, your chances has increased, ever so slightly, but it still is an increase! :D

I dont think that the other girl is in your school is relevant, but it does point out that Fs, suspensions, etc in first part of senior year at any school can knock people to the back of the line.

Yes, you have improved slightly. I assume you are taking demanding classes.

If that girl who got the F was in the maybe pile, she is really playing limbo with her chances... I honestly think there's a great chance that she'd be pushed into the rejection pile. From what I've read on CC (can't find the exact posts or w/e but in general) colleges LOATHE, DESPISE, HATE senior slackers. And if she got an F in a non-honors course, well... I really think she's in some trouble.

However, like others have said, I doubt that'll affect you.

Send it in... it certainly cannot hurt and may help!
