How's Brown doing?

I just need some basic info on Brown University. Is it a LAC? Is it hard to get into? How's the social scene? How's their grading system of fail/pass (good or bad)? Anything else?

Thanks

Brown has no specific essays?!?! they just ask for personal statements. jeez, I think I might apply.

Surely you jest!

Brown is one of the Ivy League schools. It's known for having a very liberal student community(if not quirky). The adcom who hosted the info session when we visited made a joke...she said "we have a politically diverse student body, we have democrats and even one or two republicans"...the audience laughed and clapped. A personal statement is just another word for essay. I've seen the term "personal statement" on many apps. Many people say Brown isn't well known. Around here it's a hot/popular school (we're in Philly). I think the acceptance rate is about 16%. SATs are on par with the other Ivies. It's not a place where you apply for the heck of it.

Three words: The Fiske Guide.

It's in your library and in nearly every bookstore. I'm sure your school guidance office has a copy too. Read it and you'll have all the "basic information" you need about Brown and other schools. No problem with asking more in-depth questions here after you do some initial research on your own but if you have to ask if Brown is an LAC, you need to start reading up!
