AP Literature
AP US History 2
AP Government (American--not comparitive-it isn't offered at my school)
AP World History
Economics
AP Statistics
Calculus (regular)
Spanish 5 (regular)
Health/Gym

Applying as a political science or history major....I haven't decided yet
Is this competitive enough for top 30 schools? For reaches I'm looking at Georgetown, WashU, and maybe Duke

You’re taking a lot. :0

The only suggestion I can think of is if you could possibly take AP Calculus online or calculus at a local college.

Thank you for the advice! I’ll definitely look into taking Calc at a local college. My school’s math department is awful which is why I’ve stuck to regular math for all of high school.

Well you are already taking 5 APs, which is A LOT but I’m guessing you are wondering whether or not to take Honors Calc and/or Spanish 5 (at my school there are honors sections for both). I wouldn’t try to take Calc Honors at a local college, personally, because my schedule is extremely busy (I don’t know if yours is or is not) and if 5 AP classes your senior year isn’t enough to grab the attention of top colleges than I have absolutely no idea what else is going to!?

The only problem the OP will have is that she will likely get no college credit in math. If she takes college calculus, she would have a good chance of passing the AB test (with 1 semester) and the BC test (with 2 semesters). That would grant her 4-8 hours of credit in math.

Why not AP Econ, AP Calc, and AP Spanish?

Sadly, AP Econ isn’t offered at my school. I really wish it was though since it looks really interesting. I just found out today that economics probably won’t even be a class next year due to lack of interest :(. I think I’m going to swap it out for Holocaust Perspectives. My school’s math department is awful so I’ve stuck with regular for all of high school and I absolutely hate the AP Spanish teacher because he doesn’t teach so I’m not taking that either.

Just curious- how long is your school day, and do you get any time for you? I applaude the attitude, just hope you get to be a kid while you are one Good luck!

Hi lori_mom! My school day is 9 periods and I failed to mention in the original post that two of my classes are only for the semester and another is only three times a week. So I actually end up with two off periods most days and one on some. Thank you for your concern! :)

Glad to hear it. At my sons HS, they are REQUIRED to have open blocks when taking AP classes. Sorry to hear that there aren’t the right classes with good teachers available for you. We have a great TAG teacher that has done a great job making things available to those students who need it. My son has taken several on-line classes to get something that fits for him. If that interests you, I would recommend looking into it.
