How's the econ department at UCSD?

UCSD is one of my top choices to transfer to next fall and I'm majoring in economics. Can I get some feedback or pointers about the econ department/classes at UCSD and if it's a good school for it? Hard? Easy? Horror stories...?

The only things I've heard about Econ at UCSD:

One of the most popular majors on campus.

One of the school's strongest departments despite not being related to science/engineering.

In Economics, US News & Report ranking of graduate schools has UCSD as # 10.

In Econometrics, UCSD is ranked # 2, behind MIT and ahead of Yale.

Econometrics - Economics - Best Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report

Simply put, econ is one of those under-the-radar but stellar departments at UCSD. It ranks very high consistently.

The department - great
The faculty - great
The graduate students - great
The cross-section of undergraduates - ...

How these people hope to be "I-bankers, CEOs, Managers, and Actuaries" while keeping the 50%=pass rate in most classes baffles me
