How's the food?

Princeton is my #1 choice and this is crucial information. Current students and alumni, please be brutally honest. I may base my decision to apply ED on this...

(Just kidding. But I would like to know.)

54 hits and no replies?

my friend emphasized the importance on the weather ;)

(btw i have no experience w/ Princeton's food)

Weather is also important. I like that New Jersey winters are milder than in New England.

Supposedly dining hall food is decent, possibly better than at comparable schools. There are some good restaurants locally as well, for any range of budget. Frist food is also pretty good (from experience) and eating club food depends on which eating club you join. Charter supposedly has some of the best food on the Street, whereas TI spends all of their funds on beer and has pretty bad/cheap food.

Son loved the food in the Frist Center during our visit, and was particularly pleased with a mongolian barbeque he found there, which allowed him to pick the meats and vegies he wanted and get them quick- cooked to his liking. The nearby food in the Frist looked good too, but then son had been at CMU for the summer where the food was not very palatable at all...

what kind of food is it? it'd be cool if they featured diff. cultures' food. wow, food is such an odd sounding word...

I think there is a large number of schools that offer Mongolian barbecue -- I've been to some UCs that have it as well as the U of O. I actually don't really care for it. Other than that, though, is there variety? Mexican night, Italian night, etc. would be good for a change from the typical cafeteria sandwich or whatever.

Bump 10 char.

I am a Princeton '09er and I can tell u that the dining hall food is terrible but Frist is much better, most students eat there.

the dining hall food is fine for dining hall food, better than most dining halls... but still not very good...
Frist is fine. Can get boring after a while
The only problem is that there are no cheap options off-campus (apart from hoagie haven which is a long walk) unless you go to NYC

When i visited Princeton this summer and the food tasted really good.

Hoagie Haven?

Also, is there any good pizza nearby?

Hoagie Haven is near the engineering quad (in northeast campus); you can get a huge selection of fairly cheap sandwiches. The Wa' (Wawa) near Forbes also sells sandwiches, soups, wraps, etc.

Some people swear by Old World Pizza, which runs a little on the pricey side. The selection is similar to the specialty pizzas at CPK (Sicilian, etc.) but I never actually got to try any because when I visited, I'd just gotten some orthodontic work done, and eating pizza would have been painful. There is also, of course, a Papa John's within frequent delivery distance.
