How's your Jan SSAT score?

As you may know, the Jan SSAT score is out for a couple of days now. So, did you received a score that you've previously aimed for (or even better) or maybe a little behind that mark?
I'm certainly pleased with my score (81%, 9th grade, male)

I just got my SSAT scores back. 81 percentile on reading, 83 on verbal, but 28 on math. 64 percentile overall, and total score of 2,076. I only took the test once on January 5th, and only had about 2 weeks to study for it. Also, I’m in honors math (Algebra 1) and have straight A’s. Will the admissions committee be concerned with my math score, or will they just assume I haven’t learned the material yet. Btw I’m in 8th grade.

Thanks for any help!

Its hard to say. I dont know if anyone in admissions makes a distinction between who had a more difficult test.

I say this because my daughter took the test in October and on Jan 5th. She said the Jan 5th test was quite a deal more difficult. She also said it was formatted different in that the more advanced difficult math was at the beginning of the section rather than getting more difficult as you went along.

Her Oct math score was in the 90s, Jan 5th test she scored in the upper 70s. Quite a difference for the same kid only a few weeks apart. She is currently in Advanced Geometry.

Quite surprised with my score. 99 overall. I was expecting low 80’s.

Surprised, I expected late 70’s but got a 98.
Future applicants: Don’t think I took it without prep. I did flashcards for four weeks and completed 10 practice tests in 10 days.

Wow! You guys all did really good.

Yes preparing really does help. I memorized 800 words and studied for a month.

COngrats guys, seems like everyone achieved their dream score!!!

I improved my score from 52 to 70. not great but I think I can compete at most of the schools that I am applying to

86… idk if thats good though.

If anyone’s SSAT scores are above the average scores for any school, I would say SSAT is not going to be a crucial factor that would prevent you from getting an acceptance. So, check with the schools that you are applying to. Very simple rule of thumb - you need to show that you have other compelling story if your score is not very high. DO not be overconfident if your score is super-high. I saw so many cases of an applicants with 95+ SSAT receive no-thankyou letters from schools. Another issue - just because your score is super high does not mean that every school will accept you. You may get into SPS, but you may also get denied from many second-tier schools and vice versa.

I am very happy, I improved my score from 84 to 99 :)

I improved mine from 88 to 99! studying over winter break payed off :)

I wish I prepped more. I only prepped the last three days… I did pretty well, but not what I wanted
Verbal 743 88%
Math 794 96%
Reading 728 94%
Total 2265 95%
I’m mad at myself because I would of got a perfect score in reading, but I accidentally changed my reading answers when going over verbal.

Are you kidding me? 95 is an amazing score. And even more so because you only prepared it in the last three days. You should be proud of that…

@Chemistry919, I got the same score my friend. Just a little lower on verbal, but just a little higher on reading and you and I have the exact same result. I too am in Algebra 1. I was also concerned about admissions committee’s looking down on my math score as well, but they will find that you haven’t taken geometry yet, and you haven’t taken word problems since at least the sixth grade,( I took it way back in 5th grade), just keep your head up, and remember that committee’s look at the full student, and I too have all a’s and 1 B+, so you and I are experiencing the same trepidation. I have a feeling you and I will both be fine! Just make sure you excel at interviewing! :0

I didn’t study whatsoever, yet I am still very pleased with my SSAT score.

I found the test to be very much like most standarised tests, where the material was all cumulative, and tested on what you knew from the past. I doubt that studying would have helped me too much. The problems on the maths sections were very much like questions you would see in most textbooks. The reading section hit on basic analysis of the text. The verbal section was full of words that I had come across in my reading.

So while studying most likely will help improve scores, I still believe the best way to improve scores is through cumulative, acquired knowledge, instead of cram studying random lists of vocabulary words.

I got in the 93 percentile overall.

97% Reading
90% Verbal
67% Math.

It’s so odd because I felt that the math was the easiest section of the test. I’'m also taking advanced math and passing with a 93% semseter average. Will these score hur my chance if I am applying to Emma Willard, Deerfield, and Exeter?

My SSAT scores were not very satisfying.
I got a 60%.
Around 35% for both reading verbal.
94% for Math.
Although I’m an international student I wish I could’ve studied more.

97% Overall.

I’m pleased with myself. I did terribly in math (70~). I was taking the PSAT in October so I counted PSAT prep as SSAT prep.
