HRC or Kelley LLC?

Hello IU students and parents,

My son is entering IU in the fall as a Kelley student, also in the Hutton Honors College. I am having trouble finding the answers to some of these on the website, so any information would be really helpful. 1) Are students required to live in a LLC or thematic housing of some kind? 2) If he chooses HRC, what dorms would that be in? It looks like there is a dorm floor in all three neighborhoods, but do we know what dorms? 3) What experiences do you have with the KLLC? The website makes me think it’s very intense, whereas the HRC seems more “fun.”

Thank you!!!

  1. No, but freshman have to live on campus. I am in Hutton but just living in a regular dorm.
  2. I don't know
  3. The KLLC is not intense. I do not live there, but I have a lot of friends that do. All KLLC students are required to take a 1 credit hour class each semester that is a complete joke and easy A. I just got done eating lunch with 2 KLLC friends that were making fun of how easy it is. You also have to go to a number of events, but these only require attending and are not "intense". My friends mainly recommend the KLLC because of the people living there. There are a lot of like minded people, and it is easy to make friends. If you don't live there, it definitely isn't the end of the world though.

I started a thread titled “Honors Residential Communities” and got some good feedback. You should read that thread. Good luck!!!

My daughter lived in the KLLC last year and loved it. It wasn’t “intense”… there were a lot of hard working, high achieving kids that also liked to have a lot of fun…much like the Kelley School itself. Bonuses: there are freshman business classes held in McNutt that are reserved for kids in the KLLC…you can’t beat rolling out of bed, grabbing coffee at the C-Store and going to class all within your own dorm. There are numerous programs held throughout the year and you need to attend a certain number of them but they are helpful and not intense. My daughter still talks about the breakfasts she has had with recruiters from top companies that recruit on campus. It helped her as a freshman to hear from them what they look for when they hire students out of college. There was also a nice orientation program that had you arrive back to school a few days early that was fun…and you are assigned a business mentor within Kelley during that orientation which was nice.
