D has heard through the grapevine that the HS AP credits which allowed her to enter her freshman year with 24 hours under the belt may not be accepted for vet school admissions down the road, and that she may be left scrambling to take the 100 level courses her senior year. Some vet school web sites state that AP's will be honored, but some are unclear or seem to accept some, not others. Cornell, for example, addresses english credits specifically-
"What should I do if I received AP credit for English and did not have to take any English in my undergraduate degree program?
You will still need English courses for our prerequisite course requirements. You can consider taking a writing course in the English department (for example creative writing) or submit a prerequisite substitution form for a course you have taken that is writing concentrated." However, it goes on to state " You can also satisfy this requirement by scoring a 650 or higher on the verbal GRE"
Anyone vet students out there have any issues upon admission because of AP credits in lieu of classes in undergrad? D is contacting the schools on her wish list for clarification, but I'd love to hear from the CC community.

Just FYI - D contacted 6 or 7 of the Vet schools on her list and they all more or less assured her that hs ap credits would be acknowledged in admissions consideration.

Do you know if Ohio State was one of those schools?

My daughter is a senior at Kansas State University and will also be attending vet school at K-State. She entered K-State as a sophomore with many AP credits and is using some of those credits to satisfy the prerequisites for vet school. Your daughter’s best bet is to check directly with the admissions offices of the vet schools which interest her. AP credit policies vary considerably from school to school.

buckeye, D did not contact Ohio State. I’m with gbesq in suggesting you contact them directly to be sure.

d was told AP credits would be honored at
UTKnox
Auburn
Miss State U
Cornell
LSU
U of MO
U of GA

An undergrad pre-vet adviser told D that most do, but for the sciences, you do have to have sufficient Chem & Bio classes, however if you are Science major you will end up with enough advanced classes to fulfill requirements.
