sebastianfathi.■■■■■■■■■■

just a little taster I guess

I’m sorry for spamming the forum il stop after this post but I’ve got lots of international questions:

Please can someone just run me through the stages of admission? As in, what exact steps have to be taken?

I know I have to take SATs and some subject tests (before Jan 2015 which seems possible), and this has to be done on the college board website or something?

But how do they get to the universities? Can someone go through all the stages as if I’m a baby/alien/idiot

Thanks very much

Monty, You should re-post in fresh threads with your questions. General questions abut timing and completing your application get the most responses on the College Admissions board. Financial questions on the Financial Aid and Scholarships board. Questions specifically pertaining to architecture are in the right place, but you’ll get a better response if you start your own thread.

In answer to your questions.
The American schools you list all have good to very good architecture programs. All offer the B.Arch degree which is what you need to practice in the U.S. (I’m not sure how it works in the UK and Europe.)

Some require a portfolio; some do not.

Need based financial aid is directly proportionate to your family’s income. Ask your parents to use a net price calculator to get an idea of how much need based aid you might be eligible for, then look at the individual school’s policy toward international students. E.g., Are they need blind? Do they guarantee to cover demonstrated need? Is it all grants or do they also include loans and work-study?

Because financial aid for internationals is all over the board it’s a good idea to apply to a wide range of schools. Some will also offer merit aid, which is different from need based aid. Researching aid options is a time consuming project, but you just have to keep at it and cast a wide net.

But first try the on-line calculators to get your estimated family contribution. Because you are an international, your actual mileage may vary, but this will at least give you a best case scenario.

The College Board will send your SAT scores directly to the schools you designate. Read their website about how to accomplish this.

Just a side notice, to hear people in the EU complain about tuition is unsettling :D.

There’s a few well regarded universities in the EU outside the UK that have English language teaching. I’m only mentioning them because they’re on my daughter’s list for grad school but our EU friends can take a look. TU Delft is very well regarded; Royal Kopenhagen Institute of Something or Other (not sure), and DIA in Germany. Edinburgh is also in the list.If you have the money also METU in Turkey is pretty good.

We now return you to your originally scheduled thread

:-B (architect smiley face - wonder if UK/EU architects all wear the same glasses like here…)

Thanks for posting your Architecture applications and admission decisions on this thread. Are there other Arch threads with Stats/Chance Me posts? Having trouble finding info on CC.

wk95676, I feel similarly about my son’s upcoming applications, in that he needs to apply broadly because some of the schools make it sound like admissions are <10 %. He also is not applying EA (though may do EA2 at two schools). The whole process of applying for an architecture major has been mind boggling given he only decided to do so in May. The learning curve has been steep due to the varied programs, and each program providing some valid reasons why their program is best. I wish he had been able to start two years ago so he would have been ready with a portfolio for EA.

Like some have said, our school’s Guidance office hasn’t been terribly helpful as so few students have chosen this path. Since day one we’ve felt behind. Any advice from folks would be great. Thanks!

@CapeCodLady8, Agree, the educational path to becoming an architect can be confusing. There are several degree options that achieve the same end, but the time and money involved vary widely. I think this board is your best bet for advice, but I’d suggest you begin a new post, explaining your son’s situation and asking your specific questions.

bump for people to see!
