HS Class of 2015- I want to get to know you! :)

@Teaspoons woah. A full ride at Harvard

Yeah, she was in my second block ap class.

But… Students like her tend to be good kids who like staying in the box, who are maybe not brilliant but really school smart. Theycould ace any test but if you asked them a phylisopical question, an out of the box sort of thing, they wouldn’t know what to say. This kind of makes me sad , but its also kind of good, because here I am, just as smart (grade wise) as the kids in my own class, and have a very big personality, lots of opinions, a voice, and aspirations. Not to say none of you have this, there are just different type of people who end up being in the top 5% of their class

I do see this sometimes, people will sort focus so much on the facts on not why for anything. It’s sad. I really think there should an opinions class or something of the sort where you look at many opinions on a broad range of subjects though. You’d have to get parents to sign before that they can’t complain that their child is being influenced to believe a certain thing.

U guys know that colleges dont weight honors courses right? Only ap and ib

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using CC

Or am i mistaken

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using CC

I noticed that, too. They only know how to study and work hard, and while that may be good, they need to be able to question things and form opinions. I think it’s called emotionally smart. Correct me if I’m wrong

Yes. My school is definitely filled with people like this, my friends even, who are considered the ‘smartest’ for getting close to all 100% averages in their classes (or high a’s anyways). I know so many people like this, and studying is like breathing to them. It makes me stand out(hopefully), but its also really sad.

Hi 2015, I’m Ruth!

State: MN

School: Large city school with 2000+ people.

GPA: 4.0 (UW) 4.7 (W) It would be a 5, but I had to take gym, which is unweighted. :c

Rank: Top 5% out of 500-ish people

Schools: Looking at the UC schools, potentially some Ivies, JHU, maybe Emory. A lot of my family wants me to stay in the Midwest, but I’m like, “lol no”

ECs: Russian Club, Policy Debate, I volunteer at the local zoo and have 300+ hours there, I also fence. Next year I’m thinking I’ll add either Math Team or SciOly to that. All of you have so many ECs! Debate takes so much time that I really have to pick and choose. :s

Sophomore schedule:
AP Calc
AP Physics B
AP Chem (SL)
AP Human Geo
Russian 2
IB English 10

Summer: Self study for some of my APs (mostly Calc), working at the zoo talking to visitors about animals, debate camp for a month!

Junior and Senior year I’m thinking about full IB, but I’ll end up taking math at a college nearby, since I’ll run out of math options at school by senior year.

hi(:

Rachel

race: white
rural Colorado, small public (and crappy) HS with <1000 people — but I’m in the IB program so that’s good(:
GPA: 3.85ish UW and 4.2ish W
ECs: SPEECH AND DEBATE (humor), orchestra, chamber orchestra, tennis (9), Laccrosse (10-will go through 12, JV), district HS honor orchestra
volunteering: hospice summer camps for kids + office work + other programs (100ish hours), once a week (1 hour) tutoring at a center for underprivileged kids
other: weekly cello lessons, planning on trying to start a community garden at my old elementary school with a friend(:

@ClarStuff: what does your enviro club do?(: I’m really interested in having one at my school but I don’t know where to start! FYI - almost everyone here is a gas-guzzling redneck

I live in California
I plan on going to a UC, hopefully UC Berkeley, probably in Computer Science.
My weighted UC GPA is 4.083
If all goes well this year (as in straight As) I will have 4.423 weighted UC GPA, which based on data from previous years is in the top 10% in my high school.

ECs: FIRST Robotics last year, I quit this year because I literally did nothing last year (I tried to be helpful, but I decided to join the programming subteam, a big mistake - there were way too many programmers, and only one person can program at a time… what ended up happening was just a few of the really good programmers would do everything)
That was basically my only EC sophmore year. This year, I’m doing Mu Alpha Theta/Math Team (I wish I knew about it last year), and I plan on taking the AMC 12 and hopefully qualifying for AIME. I’m also doing Science Bowl, and possibly Chemistry Olympiad.
I also play music, both in school (band, required audition) and outside of school (won 1st place in a competition).
