HS Freshman's potential path to top undergrad business schools (Wharton, Stern, etc)?

Hey guys,

I’m a hs freshman in New Jersey. I’m not sure what I want to do with my life yet, but I want to go to business school for my undergrad. I’m not sure if I want to pursue finance or law after that. But for sure, I want to go to a business school.

Just to give you some context, I was about a year old when my family moved here from India. So technically, I’m an Indian citizen. I’ll probably get my green card by the time I apply to colleges, but I’m really not sure as there’s no way of knowing. A lot of people might wonder why I’m talking so much about my immigration status, but I’ve been told that it may impact things like admissions, tuition, and potential scholarships.

Freshman year wasn’t the best for me in terms of grades (it’s pretty much over at this point, especially with online school). I’ve had a mix of A’s and B’s, with more A’s than B’s. I’ve had a couple too many B’s and this is my biggest regret/failure of the year. My unweighted GPA is probably around a 3.6 (which is bad), but my weighted is better (I haven’t calculated it yet, but I’m hoping my honors courses can help me out there).

I’m on a pretty standard path in terms of class difficulty. This year I took 7 courses, 5 of which were honors (Algebra 2, Bio, English, History, & Spanish). Next year, I’ll take APUSH along with honors classes in the other 4 categories. Also, I’ll try to self study 3-4 APs (possibly including psych, macro and micro econ, stat, seminar, and comp sci principles).

In regards to ECs, I’ve had a pretty good year. I’m in MUN, FBLA, and I write editorials for the school newspaper. In the coming years, I’m hoping to get leadership roles in at least a few of these clubs. I was also the vice president of my class. I’ll be continuing on in MUN, FBLA, and the school newspaper. While I won’t be vice president this year, I’m still on the exec board. I don’t play any sports or instruments. I’m working on starting a nonprofit organization where I tutor middle schoolers and donate the funds to education promotion charities in Africa and Asia. I’m also working with some friends on starting a branch of DECA at my school (I don’t know how this will turn out but I’m hoping I can start it).

I’m a freshman, so I haven’t taken the SAT or anything like that. I did take the PSAT 8/9 in 8th grade. I did pretty bad with an 1230 (out of 1440), but I didn’t really study much/well.

If anyone has read this far, I really appreciate it. I’m looking for any sort of advice or tips that can help me get into the schools I want. If you know literally anything that can help me, I would love it. I’d rather get this feedback, advice, and potential criticism early on in my high school career when I can actually do something about it.

Thanks!!!

One relax, none of your scores are bad at all. it is very early for this level of aguish :). I would see how early you get in navaince, it is a hs guidance program that gives you an idea of where kids in your hs went to school in the last 5 years and the grades that they had, sat scores. Take classes that interest you, it is more important to be able to stand out from the 1000 other HS kids from NJ who will apply to Wharton for example. Read up here at schools you may like , plenty of successful business people come from Rutgers and other state schools, not just the Ivy’s. Find EC that mean a lot to you so you can again so you care about them, and plan for some disappointment with college admissions, plenty of times kids just as smart as you or smarter do not get into a school that they thought they would , it happens every year, try to remember you only can go to one school.
