Hey guys, I haven’t seen any threads posted about Michigan State’s HSHSP. Is anyone else applying?
I did! And a good amount of people from Cali did so it should be interesting
@Dfalcon123 I found these stats on the old HSHSP thread. It seems like a decent amount of people from CA got in, but obviously the state is huge, and this is only one year of stats. I’m not sure if the high percentage of people from Michigan reflects more applications from Michigan or favoritism for in-state applications, or a mix of both.
And I don’t see any Ohio (although I do know of one past participant who went to my school.)
well there are only 28 participants, so it makes sense if some states arent represented often (ie ohio). It’s also encouraging that 1/2 the people didnt have prior research haha cuz im basically in that boat. Let’s hope for the best! @picats3141 I think you applied to alot of the same programs as me, maybe we’ll get to meet at one of them
@Dfalcon123 Same with no research I thought my essays were good though. Maybe we will end up in the same program! That is, if we can get into a program lol
my S applied (from CA) too. Mailed it on last day!
Did anyone send a resume to this program with their application? Just curious
@Dfalcon123 - My S did. In the application it asks for additional information, so he attached a resume. How about you?
I did attach one, although I wonder if they have time to look at it. I was also looking back on it and realized I had forgotten to switch the name of another program with HSHSP
So now it says “applying to RISE” in the corner- yikes i cant believe i did that. Do u think it will hurt me?
@Dfalcon123 - I doubt that it will impact. Where did you write “applying to RISE”? my S resume doesn’t say any objective, just list of scores, activities and honors. What’s your research preference? My S mentioned Biology and Chemistry. What other programs did you apply besides HSHSP and RISE?
Oh yeah, I didn’t think of attaching a resume. I don’t want to be that annoying kid who disregards the bold-faced, capitalized warning not to send anything electronically, but I might email Dr. Richmond to ask if I can send my resume electronically…
@srk2017 I wrote a couple sentences at the beginning of the resume explaining that im interested in Chemistry and mentioned RISE one time there. It’s not super noticeable but cant help but worry haha. The rest of my resume is similar to ur S. It was pretty short and surface-level. I also applied to Garcia.
@picats3141 I wouldnt worry too much. They didnt ask for it and its likely they wont have time to even look at them.
Though i personally emailed her with a fixed resume cuz i was worried. Hopefully it doesnt reflect badly on me.
Seems like they are quick to verify the applications, I mailed my son’s app on last day and today he got email confirming that they received and application is complete.
@srk2017 I also mailed on the last day and got confirmation yesterday.
Has anyone not received an e-mail? Did they mention when they would send all e-mails by?
@egan99 I looked at the length of the list of recipients on the email I received, and there weren’t enough for them to have sent confirmation to everyone at once, based on application numbers from previous years. Maybe they send them in batches?
@picats3141 Hopefully that is the case and they did not lose my application materials. How many were on the email list?
@egan99 about 60
They are probably sending in batches. btw, you can email them to ask for status if you want. My S emailed them asking if they received one of the recommendation letters (mailed separately) and got quick response.
