Hello, I know there's an older topic but I didn't want to resurrect it because it doesn't directly address my question.

I'm in HSS for freshman year starting in the fall. I know I want to transfer to Tepper.

I haven't gotten AP scores back, (but I'm very confident that I 5'd AB subscore and got either 4 or 5 on BC) and I haven't taken the placement test yet.

I really want to skip calc2 though.

How likely am I to skip calc2? Is it just the placement test and the ap score?

Also, assuming I get to skip calc2, which math class is better to take?
(right now I'm in econ, I want to do finance) I love math either way, so are matrix algebra or multi-v my options?

Also, I already own CMU's textbook, so this is a random question but does anyone know what chapters cmu's calc2 covers?

I know some other colleges go through 6(applications of integration),7(techniques),8(further applications),10(parametric),11(inf seq, series)

I recommend that you look at the course catalog and check the sequence you are going to take. Calc2 at CMU is a easy course and is not part of your sequence iirc. You're probably looking to take 21-120, 21-121, or 21-122. Just take the placement test when they send you the info (it's online and not very hard) and you'll likely have a chance to say what course you'd like to be in. Again read the catalog, it's the best source of info. The course description will tell you exactly what is covered. Find the section for your major and read (don't spend your whole summer reading course catalogs though, go out and have fun, summer after hs shouldn't be filled with course planning and stuff :D)

If you're into math, you should take the "engineering" math classes: 21-120, 21-122, 21-259 (although, 21-256 might be a better multi-var choice for Tepper). Placing out of classes isn't too difficult if you do well on the placement tests. You might be able to place out of 21-122 (engineering calc2) but it's one of the harder CMU math classes, so you should be confident in the material (think super-BC). I mean, classes that have pre-reqs really need you to know your stuff. Strangely, 3D calc doesn't require calc2... really, I didn't use any calc2 in that class.
