HSSEAS Emails

I'm sorry if this has already been asked, but do you know when the open house ENDS? i need to buy plane tickets and idk how late i need to buy it to go back home.

^ wow, where are u flying from?! Isnt it just open house? there will be like admit-week thing right?

Woohoo~ I didn't know they send this stuff to int'l students too =) Got it a while ago, thot it was just spam mail so I discarded it...

It would be so g@y to fly into the States then fly out to find out that I've been rejected. So yeah, I am just gonna sit "calmly" in front of my laptop from now till April 1, waiting "patiently" for all my decisions to come out T__T

@gilmorelove4life: it's a one day event.

i don't think HSSEAS does the admit week thing or w.e. but i know L&S does something like you stay over in a student's dorm for a night or two...

went last year to open house. pep talk from dean and guest speaker, quick tour, sat in lecture hall with parents and listened to a few senior students, ate subway lunch. even go to talk to a professor (who??, dunno, he was wandering around too) We also got to tour housing. then we wandered around a bit. the program was over by 2 or 3pm (started 9:30am). if you're interested in looking at all the housing types (dorms, plaza, suites, etc), then you need to go on several "housing tours" (the tour guide could only get you in to HIS building). spend some time on campus...it's big. i'd book a early evening flight (6 or7pm?), then you won't feel rushed if you find something interesting.

thanks - no i'm from norcal. i just plan to fly back home sat night. kkahuna, do you need to reserve the housing tours? does the open house include a general tour of the campus, or is it just engineering related? i've never seen the school so I really want to check everything out!

mostly tours of engineering side of the campus. you do not need to register for the housing tours, you just line up, and off you go.

I got into UCSD's Bioengineering major but didn't get any email/letter from UCLA. Am I rejected from UCLA in engineering?

Is this email just for california residents? I am international, I just got accepted in UCSB but I havent heard from UCLA

^im OOS, and i got it.

yeah, like eric90 said, you just line up for the housing tour. there were lots of guides, and the line moved fast. i would really check out all the different housing types. you can request a specific type of housing (hall, plaza, or suite), and hope you get it. once we finished a housing tour, we just joined up with another tour in another building so we didn't have to walk all the way back to Royce Hall and start all over again.
the campus tour was only of south campus....the engineering buildings. they also had some special tours of computer labs, etc (i'm not CS, so i skipped it). the campus was bigger then we thought. parents saw wooden center, ackerman, etc.
don't forget to leave time to get back to LAX too.

i got the e-mail aswell!

^umm my stats are
1940 SAT I: 720 Maths 640 CR and 580 W
2340 SAT II: 800Phys 800Chem 740 Maths
sat 1 is kinda lower than all of others who got this email.

You'll all get to see Boelter Hall

I signed up to go, but now don't really want to... Is it a good idea to cancel? If so, how?

When did you guys get the email? I think I got this email and thought it was spam so I deleted it. I'm such an idiot...

Just to let you know:

When I got the engineering letter in 2006 (about 2 weeks before UCLA officially let me know), it had wording like this:

"The faculty in the HSSEAS have recommended you for admission into the college..."

Do your emails have something like the above phrase in them?

^no, but it was better than that. its like
'though its too early to release decisions, yadah yadha yadh"
its a really positive letter. lol.

i got it around march..8~

"Dear Mr. ______:

We have received your application to UCLA's Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (HSSEAS). Your application is among those which I consider highly competitive. However, it is still too soon for admission decisions to be announced. To learn of the official decision, check the Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools (UARS) website UCLA Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools: Decision Notification in late March. You will receive an email from UARS when decisions are available online.

The purpose of this letter is to make you aware of an important event for applicants interested in learning more about the wonderful educational experience HSSEAS and UCLA have to offer.

I cordially invite you and your parents to attend an Engineering Open House on Saturday, April 4. The General Meeting, for students of all HSSEAS majors, will start at 9:30 A.M. in Royce Hall where you will be provided with information about the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, UCLA housing, and financial aid. Upon conclusion of the General Meeting, a presentation will be given by the Electrical Engineering Department, after which you will be escorted to lunch and to a subsequent informal meeting with students, faculty, and alumni. Our Open House agenda is designed to provide a good deal of information about the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, its academic departments and programs.

Please visit our website HSSEAS OASA | Freshmen Open House 2009 for further information about the agenda, travel information, and further information about the School. We ask that you let us know whether you plan to attend the Open House by using your Open House Invitation ID, xxxxxxx, and the 'RSVP' link at the website no later than Wednesday, March 25, 2009. At the website you will also find a map of UCLA and parking instructions for Open House. We suggest you arrive about 45 minutes early to provide time to secure parking and enjoy the short walk to Royce Hall. Questions may be directed to Ms. Michel Moraga, counselor in the Office of Academic and Student Affairs, at 310/825-5760 or by email to openhouse09@ea.ucla.edu.

Having reviewed your application, I want to congratulate you on your fine work in high school. I look forward to seeing you in person on April 4.

Warm Regards,

Richard Wesel
Professor of Electrical Engineering
Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs"

By the way, is the lunch free?
