Compactrunner, March 19th? I think I remember it coming out on the 26th of March somewhere... or is that some other one?

Well I think everyone who has gotten it is pretty much in. If you have a look at last years thread on this topic (it's revived, called likely letters... so it should be hanging out somewhere near the top) there isn't a SINGLE case where someone who got this letter was rejected.

And I got the letter too, so stats, if they matter-

SAT- 780M/740W/680W= 2180
SAT Math IIC- 790/ SAT Physics- 740
GPA- I live in India, but according to what the person on the phone told me, it was like an overall 3.7 or 3.8 or something.
ECs- brilliant, trust me. Leadership, initiative, everything.
Essay- Not that brilliant...

Mor99- I can't find the post, but someone who got the email called the office of admissions, and the lady told them that it was not an official decision, and that decisions would be posted on the 19th. Also, I know the 26th is for Berkeley, but I was also surprised with the 19th because I thought Berkeley and UCLA were very close to each other.

The conference is held April 4th, so by then you'll know if you were accepted or not. I believe the event is mainly for UCLA to draw in top applicants to the school who might have applied and accepted elsewhere...

Just to let all of you know who got the letter, I spoke to the engineering admissions office today and she confirmed that everyone who got the email inviting them to this open house last year was accepted to UCLA for the fall and she said it would be fair to assume that if you received this email you should expect to be admitted this fall. Since my son did not get the letter I asked if it were safe to assume that he would not be receiving an acceptance letter and although she said there are still some applications being considered, "the majority of emails have already been sent out." Just thought I would pass this information along.

You still have a chance if you are very "borderline". The second round of engineering "acceptance" letters will be released the day when everyone else receives the admission status. Chances are not high though.

As Cindy said, everyone who received the email will be admitted in the HSSEAS college, unless they cheated, lied, or failed too many courses.

If you don't get in their way, you can try appealing, but with the current conditions, there won't be too many this year.

Yes, Engineering Open House is to persuade you to come to UCLA.
If you did not know before, the "acceptance" decision was released earlier than to other UCLA applicants because of the OOS prospective students. They need to plan the trip to come to UCLA.

but im wondering if that means you got accepted into your 1st choice major?
i applied for bioengineering, which i believe is impacted (partially basing this on ucsd's)

you wont know until the admissions come out but most likely, although ucla's bioengineering isn't as competitive as ucsd's (correct me if im wrong)
the open house is a pretty good way to attract students but doesn't all schools do it? i remember ucsd had their admit day or w.e. (i didn't get in but a lot of my friends went =.=) and i remember we got a free 3 day trip to berkeley (flight included from socal :D)

Yea UCSD is ranked higher for bioengineering.

I wonder why UCLA is ranked comparatively low for engineering... I mean it's quite selective but it's ranked around 22 for undergrad eng, where as UIUC takes like 70% but is ranked 4!

im not going to convince you that ranking is not important but its also quite important for you to pick the school that you like and fits you better, there are more things to consider besides department ranking, such as location, campus life(UCSD is known to be dead in that department or so have i heard :D)... so check out the campuses if you can before you pick the school based on some ranking by experts that doesn't care about anything but like how famous the professors are or however you decide that one school's department is better than the other...
also just as a side note, be sure to visit berkeley before you decide, i might be a bit biased because im from socal but i didn't like berkeley when i visited, the weather isn't as good, campus is nice at parts and crappy at parts and the overall atmosphere just didn't feel right for me...

I got the email too, but my best friend who also applied for engineering didn't, so we are sort of in the awkward "don't talk about it" stage... not pleasant

I heard that berkeley had sent out letters like this one in february from some other threads. It wasn't an open house, but a celebration of women in engineering (both males and females received it). Is this true, because it seemed really early?
