I was reading another thread on one of the main forums that a huge drawback to HTC is that the credits do not transfer to other colleges. Is that accurate? Is that true for all HTC courses? If so, why are they not transferable?
I am going to give an opinion here and it would be best to check with the university. My guess is that the actual tutorials wouldn’t transfer because there wouldn’t be a comparable course to transfer to. Most of the courses an HTC student would be taking would be regular courses and most of them would transfer just fine. If they chose to transfer to another university after starting in the HTC program they may find that they need to take some courses to fulfill some gen ed requirements because HTC does not require them. They may also find that they are not fitting in a standard track for a specific major. As I said just an opinion based on what I know of the HTC. D considered it but did not apply.
I think @lvvcsf is correct. Transferring might be difficult because of what HTC is: you are essentially designing, within the requirement for your major, your own path. Prerequisite courses and gen ed courses are not required, so you wouldn’t have those credits to transfer. Plus, your tutorials are very specifically crafted to go deeply into topics and would not correspond to other coursework. However, as @lvvcsf said, many, many of your courses are not HTC courses (probably the majority of them).
HTC is looking for driven, independent, self-directed students. There have been instances where students are not satisfied with the HTC experience, like here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/4257216/#Comment_4257216
However, for my son, it was pretty much a perfect situation.
