Hello all,
I was wondering if there was any personal insight on the human development major offered? I’ve looked on the UCD website a bunch of times and the more I read through the information, I’m not sure if this is the right major for me. At the same time I can’t seem to take myself away from it so I’m hoping I’ll find some insight here.

I’m not interested in becoming a teacher and I always see that attached to HD. What I do love is studying people and society. I want to learn what makes people do what they do, how the environment plays a role, and how predictable people become(ie. patterns. kinda like criminal minds type thing…)

I have no idea about that major, but anthropology can have a cultural emphasis so you could look into that, or maybe psych? Or you could double major or have a minor if nothing quote fits what you want

I know this thread hasnt been touched in months, but I was just wondering if a Human Development major would allow for careers in the future that would let one be able to travel to various countries, the major looks interesting to me and I from what i’ve read about the major I could see it allowing one to maybe work with humanitarian groups in various third world countries (something I think would be awesome to do) but I just wanted to get some input!

I was a human development major at UCD and it is typically split between those who want to pursue teaching and those wanting to go into nursing. Cultural anthropology or sociology may be more what you’re looking for. However, UC Davis has an amazing study abroad program that’s extremely flexible so you could more than likely travel and do what you want regardless of your major!
