I got a letter from the Human Ecology school thanking me for my application and the energy I invested in it. They told me to contact the admissions office if I had any questions on the process and/or my application. They said decisions come out the 29th and that I may update them with anything new by early March. They ended with "we are especially interested in your academic progress and mid-term grade report". And "best wishes as the academic year and application process continues"... Is this just an informative letter they send out? Or is it a likely? I think it is the former but I just wanted to check!

This doesn’t sound like a ‘likely’ letter, which would read more like – “When decisions come out on the 29th, it is very likely that you will be admitted”. The letter then may give you the dates for events for admitted students days. (They’re not all that subtle)

In your case, it may just be informative, but it also may be C’s way of saying that you’re a close call – either they’re looking for improvement or that you maintain your GPA – but that in any case, the mid semester grades could be make or break. To be honest, I don’t know which it is.

Good luck.

I got the same letter today haha.

I got it too and was wondering the same thing…

Oh gosh…that’s really nerve-wracking…
Did everyone receive this?

I can confirm it is an informative letter, I have friends who are Human Ecology ambassadors and they helped send those out to all RD & ED-Deferred candidates.

^thanks, modelgeek!

Dang, I’m pretty impressed that they actually hand-signed all of these letters. I thought it was a copy until I saw the pen imprints on it…
Could this mean that there are really few applicants? o__o

There are quite a few Human Ecology ambassadors, so they each take a certain [manageable] amount and work on them. CHE is big on “personalization” because since it’s one of the smaller colleges within the university.

If any CHE prospectives have questions, you can PM me :)

What do you think it means that I didn’t get any letter?

^^ Doesn’t mean much if you didn’t get a letter.
There’s thousands of applicants, so it’s nearly impossible to send everyone a letter, especially through snail-mail.
But yeah, it’s more of a PR move by Cornell.
The letter has no significance on whether they see you as a qualified applicant or not.

@Swimfreak001, I got the same letter today. Did you get in?

Not to make you guys crazier with the wait for acceptances, but does this letter mean that those who do NOT send in grades/any news, have a greater chance of being placed on WL since Cornell will think there is a lack of interest?

My son was deferred ED and did not get this letter…? Wonder what it means? Time to get the Binghamton sweatshirt?

for whoever got the letter, did you send any supplementary materials after you got the letter?
@faina28 this thread is from 2012/2013
i know, thats why I’m asking
to see if not sending in supplementary materials affect the admissions decision
