Could anyone shed some light on this major/program. I know peabody is highly respected for education and development, but I am unsure if this major is what I am looking for... I want to be involved with Leadership development, team building, lecturing at schools, conferences (youth most likely), maybe business leadership.. Is this track a good path for me? How valuable is a HOD degree? Also, I saw you choose a track soph. year Community Leadership and Development, Health and Human Services, International Leadership and Development, Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness, Public Policy ... Many of these sound interesting.. Also, Is it possible to double major in HOD and (for instance) Business between the two schools? Any help, comments, reviews, opinions, are greatly appreciated. thanks !!!

bump…

I really don’t understand all the negativity toward the HOD program. I keep reading about some great things that kids in that program are doing. That lovely young woman who was recently killed in a bus accident in the Virgin Islands was an HOD major, and the stories about her say that she recently completed an internship with the U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Commission in London. I can’t imagine that would involve crayons and fingerpaints.

Vanderbilt’s HOD students have some interesting pathways into health care management with HCA connections and a medical complex on campus and many cross registration classes in Vanderbilt undergrad schools. There are many excellent placements in Nashville for government, public service, non profit and private sector work as well as many long term and always used internship placements for students interested in business and in teaching and education, to say nothing of the caliber of Peobody’s graduate school programs and related faculty members and research options which are ranked number one-to number 3 in Education nationally year after year.

My wife was a HOD major and for the last 10 years, she has been on the fast track with Philips Medical. She credits her education for her success and her ability to communicate with different levels of management.
