I know Rochester is very strong in the sciences; what are the humanities programs (especially English, philosophy, etc) in terms of both quality of teaching and how many students are involved?

My daughter is an English major at Rochester. She is very happy with the level of academics. The humanities are also quite popular (as are the social sciences), and there is no “one-upsmanship” between the science/non-science students.

I have noticed that there is just as much social science/ humanities students as there are science student… this is especially true of the upperclassmans.

My daughter is a double Humanities major. The English department in particular is quite strong and well regarded. Her friends seem to be equally divided into science, social science and humanities.

D is a math major, english minor. Has been very happy with the quality of her english courses.
