I am very interested in interdisciplinary programs and took a course that seems similar to the symposium this semester. I was wondering how to apply for the Humanities Symposium at Princeton. I know students are invited, but can a school that is reletively not well known ask for an application for a student. What does the application consist of? Can anyone who has been to the program describe how it was academically and what it takes to get in. Thanks alot

Speaking for myself and most of the people I talked to there, we didn't really know what exactly we'd done to get ourselves there. Something about a guidance counselor rec, and I think grades and scores too. Since the students don't have to do any of the application, I don't really know what the criteria is or how to maximize your acceptance chances. I'm not sure if they would let a school have a nomination that they didn't invite, but it's worth a shot. Call the Admissions Office and they'll probably tell you about whatever policy they might have. As far as the program itself, I thought it was really worthwhile. But I felt like most of its value was in learning about Princeton, more than the academic side. The classes and lectures were interesting, though. And in any event, it's a free trip to New Jersey, so I don't know what's not to like.

Thanks for the information. I was jsut wondering, were most of the kids there exceptionally well talented and accomplished in Humanities(ie published works of poetry or short stories, research in anthropology, etc.) or were they just incredibly smart students who had a passion for the subject.

No one I talked to mentioned anything super-amazing (like a published novel or anything), and I certainly haven't done anything like that, so I would say it's more the latter. So yeah, you don't have to be a total over-acheiver to get in, though I'm sure a pulitzer wouldn't hurt.
P.S.- if you search the old threads, I think there's a few about how to apply for it

I read about the Symposium here a few months ago. So I Googled it and emailed the contact info that came up, and was told that my school would be added to the list to receive info/applications in the fall.
