Does anyone knowif it's still running this year? I just found out about this earlier this week and I am a rising senior. Is there any possibility that I can talk to my guidance counselor/teachers now and see if I can still be nominated? Or is it too late for the nomination process? Thanks!

twiggerific: My son didn't find out about this until the very end of August, 2005 when we got back from vacation and his teacher called to say that they had just learned of it and wanted to nominate him with one day left. So it probably isn't too late, but getting close to the deadline for nominations. He was accepted and loved it and completed the freshman Humanities Sequence there this year.

It is still running this year.

so appaerntly they didnt even send a nomination letter to my school hmph we're on the 'waitlist' for one

Anyone know when it's held this year?

Or what the theme is?

It's the weekend of Sept 29th, but I'm not sure what the exact duration is.

I was nominated and my counselor told me the theme is "Paris, Capital of the Nineteenth Century,” and the opening remarks will be given by David Remnick of The New Yorker. She also said it would be held from Sept. 28-30.

(Though I think I heard that the "Paris" theme was the theme last year...maybe she meant that that was last year's theme and she doesn't know this year's theme yet...)

D has been nominated, but we're not sure how she'll be notified. Is it by mail, e-mail or another method?

My son was notified of his acceptance by regular mail. The symposium is from the late afternoon/evening of the 28th (Friday) through Sunday morning. Good luck to all those seeking acceptance. It is a great experience.

has anyone that has been nominated heard back from princeton as to whether or not they've been accepted for the symposium yet? if so, when did you hear?

We were told by the admissions office that notification would be sent out by mail toward the end of next week.

Just a heads up - attending this symposium definitely does NOT mean your child will be accepted at Princeton. Unfortunately, they put on the full court press at this and repeat phrases like "When you come her you will, " and "when you take this you will find, " thus getting kids pumped about the place. But they still have to get themselves in and they only admit some proportion of the 85 or so kids they invite to this.

CMA1...given EarlyRiser's comments yesterday that notification would be sent out this week, I was wondering if you meant that your son got the notice by mail for this years symposium? We are waiting too, and if so, I hope it doesn't mean notification for those selected already went out and those not will be notified this week!!!

No, my son is a freshman who attended the symposium last year. Good luck to those waiting for the decision.

If I recall, everything is sent in a large packet via USPS - reading material, airline tickets, schedule, host info, etc. Son attended 2 years ago and I was surprised at how close to the symposium start date the acceptance and info arrived. He loved it and it convinced him that this was where he wanted to go, but as others have said, not every attendee is accepted. Good luck!

daughter just received the letter of invitation..it was dated yesterday..it says to rsvp and if she accepts they will send all of the reading materials, etc later.

Congratulations Proudmom9000! I hope your daughter attends. My son thought it was a great experience. He especially enjoyed the round table discussion with seniors and the precepts taught by actual Princeton professors.
Last year, my son rec'ed his acceptance in a business letter envelope. Subsequently, Princeton tried emailing the reading materials for the precepts, but when it didn't go through, they immediately federal expressed them to him.

OMG!!!!!!!! I am invited too!! so excited!
