Anybody heard anything about the humanities symposium this year? My teacher told me a week or two ago she recommended me (I had mentioned it last year to her) and that it was the weekend of Sept. 29. I'm just wondering if any CCers were also nominated for it or if anyone's heard back yet.

I got a letter about it today. Is any one else here going?

I was nominated but I haven't heard anything yet. Glad to hear you did. I wonder if we aren't chosen, if they will still send us something letting us know that? I am also curious about transportation. Since you are going from Auburn, do you have to arrange your own transportation and they will reimburse you or do they arrange it for you?

Congratulations!

I was just wondering if anyone else has heard anything. I realize it's only been two days since someone announced that he or she was going, but I'm just curious.
so bump I guess.

My son is going. We are from northern NJ. He looks like a great program.

I am! anyone else?

I meant "it" looks like a great program. Sorry. Any NJ kids going?

The theme this year sounds great -- Paris in the 19th Century. Is there also a recruiting aspect to the program?

bump... again... everyone should know by now if they are going I think!!

My son went last year, so I don't know if they send out letters to those who were nominated but that they didn't invite. I would think you would hear, either way. Princeton arranges and pays for all travel through a local travel agent they use. You are hosted by a current Princeton student and need to bring a sleeping bag. My son thoroughly enjoyed the program and yes, it is used somewhat as a recruiting tool. Before he went, he was not all that enthused about the ivy league, but he had a different opinion after the
Symposium and eventually wound up matriculating at Princeton (and is going to be a host for this year, I believe). However, attending this does not guarantee admission as some kids find out each spring.

My roommates and I are hosting! I wish I had been nominated to this thing, it looks fantastic!

Hi glinda. Do the hosts simply volunteer or does Princeton request certain students to be hosts?

How canI get in on this or next year? I love the humanities and would really love to attend. My school is so off the map, though, so i dont know how that would work out. Also, are there seminars on friday night and saturday?

I believe it's all volunteer. I just got an email asking if anyone was willing.

They sent out a round of e-mails last week to Hum Symp alumni, asking them to host, and then they sent the general e-mail today. So I guess alumni get first chance to host.

My son was recommended by his school a couple of weeks ago but he never got a response. Should he assume that all the attendees have been invited at this time??

Ditto the above question.

I've just emailed the undergraduate admissions office. Yes I know, it may be a bit excessive, but I wanted some closure. I'll post when I get a reply from them.

I know my son (who is attending) received an email saying that they federal expressed the reading material to all of the attendees.

Is there anyone here who has been to the program who would like to tell us some details about it? Like, are the classes intimidating? Did you read the WHOLE packet of readings? What were your hosts like? ... anything!
