I have been accepted to both Humboldt and UC Riverside and was offered a $5,000 scholarship to Riverside, so the tuition is about the same. I am at a loss as to which school I should go to. I know UC's are usually more prestigous, but I know Riverside is one of the UC's that is maybe not as good. I am majoring in political science and I would assume Riverside is better at that major then Humboldt, but I cannot be sure.

These are both my back-up's. I really want to go to UCSB, but with a 3.3 gpa and 1890 SAT I know it is a stretch.

I think what it really comes down to is partying (Humboldt) v. studying (Riverside). I really would like the whole college experience and I worry that by choosing Riverside, I would be missing out on that, because I heard everyone goes home on the weekends.....and I do not want to be the only one on campus on weekends..I live to far to commute!!! Does anyone have any ideas that could help me make a decision?

I would say, UCR. UCR has parties… its a UC. All UC’s are party schools… well almost. If you like nature, the outdoor, Humboldt is great but I think for the “college experience” UCR is better. its just my opinon.

That is a really good point and I am not HUGE on nature…but I heard that Riverside is a ghost town on weekends…is this true? because that is a huge turn off it is true. I work hard on weekdays so i am able to party on weekends and I don’t wanna end up partying by myself lol.

The kids all drive from where I live to party at UCR. But I have only heard about them doing it on the weekdays. It is definitely a commuter school. I also don’t know where you got your info that Humboldt is a party school? That is not the way it is at all. I got accepted there and I am thinking about attending there because I want the whole college experience, not just the commuter college experience.
Both good schools, but you have it in reverse, UCR has block long parties that are HUGE. Things aren’t that way at Humboldt.

Kathryn1991, there is parties in every colleges. don’t worry, i’m sure you’ll find stuff to do on the weekend whether you go to UCR or CSUH. I don’t know what its like at Humboldt but I know for sure that UCR has tons of thing to do on the weekend, (they have more funds to held activites and such). Also, there is always people living in the dorms on the weekend, you’re not the only one, don’t worry. plus, choosing a college also depends on your major. well, anyway, good luck with your future endeavors!

I have friends who have gone there and ended up dropping out of Humboldt because they have partied so much but I just wanted another opinioon. Thanks!

Sadly UCR is empty on weekends but I regret nothing of coming here. I turned down a full ride to Merced amd admission to Cal Poly and UCSC. and who said UCR aint prestige. Its beats out 1415 other universities in ranking

“I am not HUGE on nature”
Have you visited Humboldt? My son loved it especially because of all of the outdoor opportunities it offered. There are lots of cultural events going on on weekends but Arcata is not close to anywhere, so enjoying what the area has to offer should be an important part of your decision.

I am definatly planning on visiting Humboldt mid-April and am visiting Riverside next weekend. It’s just tough since both universities are about 6 hours away from where I live. And it’s not that i MIND nature…i just PREFER the city. :/

For those that have graduated form Humboldt State University with a major in BA, minor in Accounting or Finance- any cons and pros from your school experience, internships and ease of getting a job in the business world- any advice, pros and cons would be super!

Considering the location of the school, I’m guessing it would be kind of hard to get internships and stuff since it’s pretty remote.

they both suck!!! I’ll say Riverside!!!1
