have my own business - website design
work at a bank (customer service rep - got it with nooo connections)
over 1000 hrs of community service
decent at piano and pretty good at vball (some awards)

Hey Dostoyevsky. You are getting in. I think I'll be rejected so let's cross my fingers for Wharton ED. :(

thnx, but eh iono....my grades are iffy....nywayz, i was just curious what every1 else that applied had on their slate...what are your stats?

Well, my SATs and SATIIs are not that stellar compared to CC'ers. But, they are within the "Ivy-Range". Hardest Course load. Valedictorian (1/463). Came to the U.S. when I was almost 10. Speaks, reads, writes Chinese fluently - Cantonese and Mandarin.
EC's are few, but I've devoted my time to pursue my passions.
*Kerry Edwards '04 Field Organizer (30+ hours a week for the past 2-3 months...and he lost...:().
*Kerry'04 Primaries student intern/coordinator (10+ hours a week- the state newspaper wrote an article about my involvement!)
*Worked as a Volunteer tutor in China over the summer: prepared underprivileaged kids for the English part of their exam this coming year. Spent two weeks living in a village...learned some farming basics.
*Captain of Science Olympiad- team placed 4th in State.
*Currently involved with a program that offers free tutoring service to low-income families, thus I am a mentor/tutor.
*250+ hours of Community service with local hospital.

Those are my ECs. Some people might call them weak. I just don't care anymore...I've pursued my passions, and if Penn thinks my ECs are weak (which is likely...I don't have a single "Clubby" listed!)...too bad. :(

I doubt I have a legit shot at Huntsman...I am definitely not the best or the brightest compared to most Huntsman hopefuls on this board. So, it's a long long long shot. But, Wharton is good enuff.

flame - your academics seem at min. pass the ivy league bar (just being valedictorian is amazing).....your ECs (and mine too) may not qualify as unbelievable, but i think they fall into the range of solid-great (and def. above avg)....i think you have an average chance at least....but obviously, you are no shoe-in......btw, wouldnt science olympiad count as a club??

what i found about the huntsman program is that it is NOT numbers-driven....they try to get a student body that will work well together and with the staff....they DO care about academics and ECs, but a HUGE part of it is personality and how much you wanna get in.....im taking this info from talkin to most of the huntsman freshmans and from some staff personnel in the program....i find that because the huntsman program places an unusually high weight on your personal side, I am attracted to it even more!

Really?! I have never really talked to the Huntsman ppl. But, that's def. good to hear. :) Still, I think I am lowering my own expectations, just so I won't be disappointed when I get a rejection/deferral.

And yea, Science Olympiad is a club. What I meant was the traditional clubbies: student gov, NHS, blah blah blah.

traditional clubs dont help much in my opinion....they tell nothing about YOU (of course, there are exceptions).....its good to not get your hopes up though, that is what i am doing too lol

Do you think a bad writing score will screw me over? I just took the thing today...and it ain't pretty. I have a 730 V and a 4 in AP Eng...but I just suck at the damn grammar "sentence error" stuff...I seriously think it's because I came to US when I was almost 10...I still have the problems of Chinese Idioms...but I seriously bombed the writing though. Is that the end of me? :( :( :( :( :( (If I can find a face more depressed than the anti-smilies, I would use it)

i dont think a SINGLE component of your application can hurt you much......unless its a suspension/drugs/arrest/etc.......since you also have a decent reason to not be that good at writing, i dont see how that alone could keep you out

Gosh. I am praying. Because I am a very good writer (believe it or not) but I just have the hardest time pinning the grammar down.

I just noticed that you and I are the only people posting...and a lot of ppl are just viewing...come on, pips! Post!

well....i did kinda exclude every1 not applying to huntsman lol....that could be a reason no1 is posting; they are viewing this cuz i guess they are just voyeuristic....you, dred, kingb, and i are the only ppl applyin to huntsman on here i think....i could be wrong though

1570, 800, 770, 800, top 10%, class president, captain of bball team, amnesty international president, mun vice president, high school tutoring organization president, university medical center at princeton hospital (480 hours), MUN awards, NJ boys state delegate, NHS, #1 hs in jersey.

wow you elite huntsman bastards...whartons good enough for me....

oops im not allowed to post here :)

Wharton's good enough for me too! HAHA. But, eh. The more I think about my chances, the more it seem to dwindle. Now, I have officially convinced myself that I will get rejected...no expectations, whatsoever. I am heading straight to UChicago if not Penn - let's hope I get into one of those two. :)

The only things that can save me are my essays and my ECs...the rest is blah, blah, blah...perhaps this is the best way to approach the situation...is to not have any expectations, I can live my normal life, and proceed till Dec. 10, when I can laugh at the rejection letter. tear

HEHE. But it has been a heck of a ride though, the application process.

I am rambling, I know...I just came back from clearing out the Kerry office and filling a report with the camp...gosh... tear.

Good night every1, hope you guys had fun over the weekend.

pennhomie- nice stats man....what high school do you goto....are you going to be at Rutgers Model UN or Harvard Model UN....what language are you applying for???

ALright. I have a 1550 on the SATs
SAT2s:
Writing - 780
Math 2C - 790
Spanish 800

APs - all 5's on ENglish Language, English Lit., AB Calc, Spanish Language and SPanish Lit.

I spent last year living with a Spanish family and studying in Spain (hook?)

My main ECs are my two online business (one is incorporated) and journalism. I write movie and video game articles for two web sites (paid) and have interviewed big name bands like 311 and O.A.R. . I also filed a provisional patent application sophomore year.

I also play squash and do muay thai (thai boxing) after school and have done robotoics/math/engineering competitions.

I've gotten A's and B's all throughout high school and got all A's junior year.

Also, I'm a legacy, although I'm told this does not help for Huntsman.

ill be at rutgers bro, you? harvard is during basketball season, can't make that OR ilmunc! i'm steamed.

i see....yea man, i will be at rutgers (security council - im spain).....what school do you goto pennhomie? (i goto eastern regional -in voorhees- we won a delegation award last year!)

yeah im doing ccpcj this year -- we won best large delegation last year, west windsor plainsboro hs north. i won gavel in WHO last year.
